Final days! Our current exhibition "Fascinating Shapes in Ko-Imari" closes this week on Thursday, Dec. 19 (last entry, 4:30 pm). Hurry in to see this charming ewer in the shape of a sake cask. It is very finely crafted, with details that simply must be seen in person, including the "hooping" around the body and the delicate pine trees added on the handle.The design on the top, which features a lively floral arabesque and the character 寿 (read "ju" and meaning longevity) makes this piece especially suitable for a celebratory banquet. Notice: the museum is currently closed as we prepare for our next exhibition. We re-open Tuesday July 2 with ‘Edo Blue’ in Imari Ware," a special exhibition in cooperation with the Ota Memorial Museum of Art in Harajuku, which specializes in ukiyoe woodblock prints. Each museum will draw on its own collection to show how the color blue was a vibrant part of the lives of people during the Edo period. Here at the Toguri Museum of Art, we will present a gorgeous selection of Imari ware in the beautiful blues that have come to symbolize the Edo era and lifestyle. Through Sept. 22 -- please come!
