🇬🇧 We all know that mature leaves have unique charms, offering a milder taste and more sweetness compared to tender tips. When talking about teas made from mature leaves, Puerh Huang Pian is usually the first that comes to mind; some of you may have tried our Lao Pa Ka, which is also made from mature leaves in the Puerh regions but undergoes a process different from Huang Pian.

Today, we are presenting another mature-leaf tea from the Liu Bao region: Lao Cha Po. It is made with a completely different process and provides flavors entirely distinct from Liu Bao tea. I bet most people haven’t tried it before, as it used to be a “coarse tea” kept only for the tea farmers themselves. 🇪🇸 Todos sabemos que las hojas maduras tienen un encanto singular, ofreciendo un sabor más suave y mayor dulzura en comparación con los brotes tiernos. That’s exactly why, this time at the 2025 Euro Tea Expo, we also had such great fun meeting Chinese tea experts like Mr. Fang Ke, the top figure of the tea community Don Mei from MEI LEAF, and many other professionals from other outstanding tea brands, as well as countless tea friends, especially dear Ama Don and .

Many thanks to everyone for sharing these sweet tea moments, and of course, it’s impossible to forget to thank dear Lucy for her selfless help, and the organizers of for such a successful event.

🇬🇧 Why is the Yancha listing on our website different from other shops? 🇪🇸 En español ⬇️ más abajo.

For the first time, and as an exception, two separate entries of “Lao Shu (Old Tree) Mei Zhan” appear on our website. Normally, we add subsequent versions of the same tea as new options under the existing product, whereas many other teashops list each version as a separate entry. A very dear friend once suggested that some drinkers might not be used to this structure of website listing. So, let’s explain why we handle it differently!

✅ As long as a tea maintains its excellence, we will continue to provide its new version each year.

✅ We always try to source the new versions of a tea continuously from the same farmer, or at least preserve the same style.

✅ The charm of Yancha lies in the great diversity of cultivars, the varied roasting styles, as well as the nuances of each year’s harvest.

📌 Thus, listing different annual versions under the same entry best reflects the continuity of a tea. We encourage our drinkers to explore Yancha in multiple dimensions, including the subtle nuances between different versions of the same tea.

🇬🇧 Yes, they are the same tea. Both are raw Liu Bao.

In the end of 1950s, the emergence of the Wodui (artificial wet-piling fermentation) technique divided Liu Bao tea into two distinctly different styles: traditional Liu Bao and modern Liu Bao, often referred to as “raw Liu Bao” and “ripe Liu Bao” respectively. This distinction is somewhat similar to that between raw Puerh and ripe Puerh, which is likewise defined by the application of the Wodui technique.

By using the Wodui technique, modern Liu Bao imitates the flavor profile of well-aged traditional Liu Bao. However, the unique flavors of raw Liu Bao are irreplaceable—not only for their bold and powerful character in youth, but also because, even after aging, their mellow and complex taste remains distinctly different from that of any modern Liu Bao.
