AREA TROUT 3.
Suitable rods for plastic lures
Most of the rods designed for this area purpose rarely exceed 2 metres because in most of the cases we do not really have to fish sport surrounded by thick reed or other bankside vegetation. On the other hand, long distances do not often occur on area ponds.
Let us speak about the characteristic features of the rod. I would divide rods into two different groups. I am a jig fisherman who use plastic lures every time, except some cases when they do not work. Plastic lures can be presented in many different ways but there is one common thing we have to consider this is the added weight we put on the hook such as jighead, mormyshka, split shot, tungsten or even cheburashka or flex head. The lure presentation takes place mainly on or near the bottom. After the cast we have to wait for the lure to settle on the deck. That is why we need a rod with a little bit stronger backbone. But I have to point at that not the classic jig ultra fast jigging rods are required.
I really in love with the solid tipped rods because if the trout have a look at the lure the tip show registration. Of course it is not the truth but it lies close to it. In cold water conditions trout metabolism slow down so we have to adjust our lure presentation to this behaviour to be successful. Fish do not want to waste too much energy for chasing lures, they slowly patrolling and the prey coming towards us they bump into they take it. They do it really finicky. But, the fight after being hooked is really strong and powerful, we have to be cautious not to lose the fish or break our line or even tackle. We will discuss this question later more detailed.
I would like to offer some really good rods from our range. If your pond is stocked mainly under 30 cm rainbows you will not need a power fighter rod, in this case
- Nano Zero 172 cm 0,2-1,5 g
- Nano Zero Carbon 172 cm 0,2-1,5 g
will do your needs and what is more give you an enjoyable play.
If the size of the trout well over 35 or 40+ you would need a much stronger rod such as our new
- Arion 702 ULS 209 cm 0,7-5 g. (see pictures enclosed)
It has quite a lot of power reserve to cushion the runs of the hooked torpedo.
In the next chapter we will have a look at the rods for spinners and spoons.
