So many things have driven us to stop reading books or learning new things, but a big one is the misuse of social media and tech.
How we place our attention makes a big difference in how we see the world. But what drives us to place our attention in one area or another? If we feel our attention is being hijacked, what can we do to change it?

Sometimes, what's driving the way our attention is placed is physiological. If we are feeling angsty, hopeless, worried, fearful, or depressed, we are experiencing emotions that emerge from chronic survival states of our nervous systems. Our attention and how we place it will thus be driven by these states. Survival is driving our attention.

It could be to distract us from how we feel inside so we can avoid the difficult things. Or it could be an incessant need to keep scrolling because there is some 'problem' somewhere (according to our body) that needs to be solved, only, we don't consciously recognize this so we keep scrolling as we're driven by these feelings nontheless.

Either way, we want to calm the body down to bring us back to a place where we aren't driven by survival so we have agency in where we place our attention.
You can try out this practice to slow the body down: https://www.collective-evolution.com/bee-exercise
