Just another glorious Sunday in the workshop...

Oh... I just love adding supports to models. I love adding supports to models. I love adding supports to models. If I say it enough times, maybe I’ll actually start believing it.

Sure, the "auto-add support" feature does a lot of the heavy lifting. And by heavy lifting, I mean it graciously provides me with a whole new set of problems—like placing the supports so close to the model that they basically become a permanent part of the wagon. Truly, so incredibly helpful.

Nothing quite like spending hours manually deleting and moving hundreds of tiny digital sticks just to fix what the software "helped" me with. Pure, unadulterated joy.

Pass the Baileys. ☕🥃

Sunday lesson learned...

Finally tracked down the "bug" in the groove and tongue assembly. Turns out the contour of the groove actually needs to follow the path of the tongue—shocking, right? 🙄

A bit of "active constructive redesign" (otherwise known as grabbing a file and manual labor) got it fitting. It’s always simple in theory, but a total headache in practice until you see it click together.

This is exactly why we run so many test prints. The journey from the drawing board to the end customer is a long road, but it’s all about ironing out these tiny details to make sure the final wagon is perfect.

Slowly getting there! Time for some more coffee. ☕🚂

Getting into the groove... ☕🥃

All the files for the DBS Habins-y are officially exported! I’m currently neck-deep in adding supports to the STLs—the last bit of tedious clicking before the fun begins.

The printer has been fully cleaned and serviced, so it’s sitting there ready for a fresh start. And most importantly, the coffee and Baileys have been mixed to help the support-placing go a little smoother.

Almost time to hit that print button! 🛠️🚀

Just another Sunday in the workshop...

Got some feedback from the "wizard of paint," and it wasn’t the news I wanted. The clearance on the seams between those two body parts is way off—like, "far from it" off.

This is a major headache because that specific seam is the foundation for everything else. Every step I’ve taken since depends on that one position being perfect. Since it’s not, it's back to the digital drawing board to redo the foundation so the rest of the model actually lines up.

Nothing like a total rework to start the day. More coffee definitely required for this one.

A Little Christmas Update 🎄

Bogie is officially done and the print is pending! The prototype of the DBS Habins-y is currently being assembled by the skillful "wizard of paint"—any issues found have already been corrected in the model, and we’ll have a new test print ready in the new year.

Honestly, it feels like the last 8 months have been all about the workshop: new build boxes, installing better printers, and just upgrading the whole work area. It’s been a grind, but the setup is finally where it needs to be.

Next year’s mission: Focus on building the models, not just the stuff around the workshop!

Okay, progress update! After sorting out the bogie stretch, I've managed to knock out the design for one half of the brake assembly—the brake arm and brake shoe assembly. ✅

It's just one piece out of two, but getting the geometry right to fit into that newly created 1.5 mm space was the real headache. Feels good to have this one done! Now, onto designing the mirror piece... more coffee needed.☕

Just a little Sunday Morning Fun

Got the bogie stretched 1.5 mm in each direction. Looks like nothing changed, but man, fixing all those little model dependencies and getting everything lined up perfectly takes way more time than it should!

But hey, achieving a bit more space for the brake pads and brake arms while maintaining the wheelbase position and keeping it true to the specs! Time for coffee. ☕

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you a quick peek behind the curtain of the brake design for the DRRS bogie.

Based upon the technical drawings and reference photos, progress has been made. We're just tweaking the details such that the brake mounts, arms, and pads are one separate body for easy installation.

The first quick print of the bogie. All the parts fits perfectly with just the right tolerance.

A minor adjustment to the brass bearings and the bogie rolls incredible smoothly.

Progress is being made on the bogie. The first test print will be without the brake assembly.
