End of summer means the beginning of another exciting events season at the bookshop!

To start us off, we are very excited to host a booktalk between author Trine Engholm Michelsen and editor Duncan Rogers of Helion & Company Ltd .

They will be in conversation about Trine Engholm Michelsen ‘s fascinating book, ‘The Grand Duchess’, Jutta Graae, who was part of the Danish resistance during World War II. From 1939 to 1945, from her desk at a bank in Copenhagen, Graae built secret bridges to Churchill’ Britain, funneling intelligence, messages and men across N**i controlled borders.

We can’t wait to hear more about this.

Recent book to screen adaptations 📖🎞️

We’ve noticed that over the past few years, movie adaptations of novels (both classics and contemporary fiction) have become increasingly popular.

Everyone cried with Jessie Buckley in Hamnet, Jacob Elordi’s portrayal of the Creature in Frankenstein is one we have never seen before, Ryan Gosling and Rocky the space spider became everyone’s favourite duo and everyone who has read Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series will agree that Helen Mirren is the PERFECT Elizabeth.

As T.S. Eliot wrote in 1920, “Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different.” And isn’t adaption just a way of both appreciating and interpreting a piece of art?

What’s your favourite book to screen adaptation?

Whether you love Hillary Mantel’s Wolf Hall series, are a history buff, have all songs from Six: The Musical playing on repeat or (like Franca) are obsessed with Oscar Isaac’s rendition of the old folk song The Death of Queen Jane, we have just the book for you at Books & Company! 💙

We noticed we had a whole collection of Tudor-themed books in the shop, so here’s our newest little display!

And if you’ve never read anything about Henry VIII and his many (MANY) wives, summer’s as good a time as any to dive right into it!

Happy reading!

Out now!

An intimate portrait of one of the twenty-first century’s most important thinkers, an urgent study of contemporary politics - and a treatise on how the West can claw democracy back from the brink.

Summer 2026 has been wonderfully busy at Books & Company. Here are a few snippets for your Sunday reading pleasure ☀️☀️

We have had the pleasure of welcoming new and return customers from all across the globe:

From the lovely young women depicted above visiting from LA and Mumbai, to couples and families from Australia and Canada. We have had visitors from Croatia, Switzerland (a couple that visit every year ❤️), Paris (a family contemplating relocation), Herning (a home exchange in Charlottenlund), London, Greece (a Polish translator and his writer partner, visiting from Crete and picking up preordered books 🌟)

A sweet couple from Wisconsin (her husband had invited her on her first trip that required a passport so she could visit Thomas Dambo and the giant trolls she had brought to a project in her home state).

Folks from the Netherlands (isabella invariably mentions the year she spent there:), lots of Americans (we always ask to see if perhaps they might be from Rebecca’s home town, because why not), quite a few Germans (Isabella can’t help but mention, EVERY time, that Franca speaks fluent German after growing up in Berlin 😂) Irish customers (in which case we often discuss how so many Danes think they must be Scottish (!!) which makes our resident Irish woman, Áine, laugh).

We also welcomed visitors from Japan and Korea (trendy young people who visit (also) thanks to our proximity to our (slightly) more instagrammable friends Juno the bakery and Atelier September right up the road).

Finally we have, of course, our fantastic Swedish customers who follow us here and hop on ferries and trains to stock up on summer reads, our Norwegian friends (with whom we have obviously discussed the World Cup, Haaland and rowing!) and lots and lots of Danes who live abroad from Dubai to Dublin.

So as we prepare to return to days that are more office chair than hammock, we send a grateful thought to all the wonderful customers that have come through our doors, enjoyed our selection of books and iced drinks, shared their stories and made our bookshop summer so special ❤️

One question we get over and over is:

‘What is the book everyone is reading and talking about right now?’

Which made us think…..

Of course we need to have a list of monthly bestsellers.

So here we go ☀️

Let us know if you would like us to set a copy aside for you!

It’s friendship day, friends! Literature is full of friendship stories - the good, the bad, the essential, and the toxic.

At the end of the day, nothing, nothing saves you like that friend you can rely on to be there for you in celebration, and when everything goes sideways.

Anywhere you look in the shop, in fiction, in non fiction, in memoirs, in self help (definitely in self help!!), in the children’s section, in YA, even among the cookbooks, you are bound to come across the theme of friendship.

And obviously, we all know, the best friends of all is the one we reach for on the shelf to get us through everything and anything 📖

Happy friendship day ❤️

One of many reasons to look forward to The Booker Prizes long list is the sheer breadth of the choices.

Here’s an example of four books that span a medieval story reflecting on what makes a king great and a life meaningful; a post-apocalyptic adventure on the limits of human understanding; a campus story of love and scandal set in a famous but crumbling university city overrun by vegetation; a sharp and slyly funny novel of enduring friendship.

And that is just four of the thirteen longlisted books! Stay tuned for more….

As always, just let us know if you’d like a copy set aside ☀️

Does anything rival customers who walk in to buy books?

Well, customers who walk in with DOGS to buy books.

So obviously a ‘Pups of Books & Company’ had to happen.

Here is a small sample of the many many many wonderful dogs of all sizes who come through our doors.
