Santa Maria Rebozos

While the "Rebozos" shawl is one of the most iconic traditional Mexican garments, characterized by its specific knotting, dyeing, weaving, and ending processes, the silk rebozos from Santa Maria del Rio are famous for being the finest and most elaborate of their kind.
Rumour says, that the best of them can be pulled with ease through a wedding ring.

True to the fame, a Santa Maria rebozo is a unique pleasure to wear, all made from soft and flowing silk, gently shimmering and revealing the intricate weaving patterns.

The Zapoteca store just next to Sankt Hans square in Nørrebro has a few authentic Santa Maria rebozos in stock, personally purchased from traditional Mexican artisans.

Have a look, try them out and get the perfect accessory for literally any weather and season!

Ready for any kind of weather!

The Mexican "Rebozo" protects not only from the cold wind or the blazing sun - it is both used as a versatile ornament, draped around the waist or the shoulders, or wrapped around the head, but also to carry charges from infants to groceries.

Somewhere between scarf and shawl, typically woven, rectangular and ending in fringes, the rebozo is considered a typical Mexican garment, whose origins potentially date back to Mesoamerican indigenous women and the early colonial period.

Typical materials are cotton, wool, silk, or rayon.
Traditional rebozos are made with the "ikat" dyeing technique, which consists in "protection" certain fibers or parts of the strands from dye by transient knots.

The Zapoteca in the heart of Nørrebro has a huge collection of various rebozos in many colours and various materials - and the owner will add many fascinating stories on their origins and signification into the bargain!

I'll keep a watchful eye on your home!

Interesting fact - the particular tubular shape of the owl's eyeball makes it unable to move its eyes. Instead, owls can turn their heads by 270°, requiring in turn a very particular anatomy of the neck vertebrae and blood supply to the head, a fascinating example of evolutionary specification.

Truth to be told, this pretty guy hasn't been shaped by evolution, but rather handmade with natural cactus fibers in Mexico before coming all the way to the Zapoteca store in the heart of Nørrebro.
And now he's just waiting for you to adopt him and give him a new home to watch over!

Early bird or night owl?

Since times immemorial, owls have left their trace in countless mythologies. Sometimes considered as symbols of wisdom, fortune, and holders of spiritual power, sometimes feared as harbingers of death and associates of witches because of their association with the dark of the night - every culture has their own interpretation of the nocturnal birds (especially as they are present nearly everywhere on the planet).

These cute specimens handmade of natural cactus fibers from Mexico are definitely only harbingers of good mood. And who could resist those pretty blue eyes anyways?

Greet them at the Zapoteca store just next to Sankt Hans square in Nørrebro!
