Gerhard Neumaier's paintings are not really painted, but scratched. First he applies thick layers of paint, then he takes some of it away – like a sculptor. Neumaier uses all kinds of tools to do that, from a scraper to a piece of rubber he finds on the street. Moreover the artist doesn't use white paint, every white spot or bright tone one sees is evoked by the white painting ground which he reveals again. Stunning!
