Getting things up to speed for tonight...
What a week... Many guitarfixes, a great gig on Wednesday, ( where our '74 and his brother saw their first big stage together with 2 great guitar masters) and a nice (surprise) visit from Mike at our MAR living room. He is currently on tour ( and shows us how to really play guitar) with shab in Europe. ( Thx to Mauro and our friends from .stage for thinking of us 😉). We also did get some great new ( old ) gear today from Fender and Marshall what completes the week.
I love these '88 Korean Squiers. They have superfast necks and a great built quality. This one is currently in the shop for a "I was lying in the basement for too long" setup. A fresh fret level, a few new pots and a new 5 way switch was absolutely needed. Next task on the list is the nut, which needs to be recut, and some standard stuff. After that's been done she is ready to Rock for another 20 years.
Since I had still a bit of time in California i took the chance to visit DWs US factory for a little tour. It's always a great chance, whilst being on the WestCoast, to visit some of these premium brands we all love so much...
... a nice morning walk to see some of these iconic places....

It was a great pleasure to welcome Barry Boyce ( ) together with Bill B. from the Infusion Brewing Company here in lovely Bavaria. It was great fun and nice to see that it doesn´t always need to be a big Rock concert. A good Polka Sound, a nice crowd and some Nebraska spirit is all you need.
Also a big fan of all the Fender Blues Junior out there? We have something new available. The Supro Blues King 12 is similar but yet different. It comes in the same handy size, has a great analog reverb, but will be powered up by a single 6L6GC ( class A ) and a single 12AX7 in the preamp. It sounds great clean, but has also a boost and a power FET funktion for classic Rock Sounds.
What an idyllic drive through the countryside to pick up some gear for the MAR shop....
Just arrived.... A 1980 Fender Twin Reverb 135w and it's Japanse solid state copy from Pearl.
Haven't been here for ages... It's nice to see more and more live acts back on tour..
Even if our core competence is clearly focused to guitars and everything else for a good rock sound, we never hesitate to add cool fancy vintage gear to our collection. In addition to the Keynote - Auto Rhythm Mark XX Drum Machine we´re proud to present the latest arrival, a Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-03. It's a famous part of history and stands as a good example for many of these devices which followed after.
The move into the new storage and Repair-Shop has been finished this weekend. Enough space for our Speaker collection and all the parts we need for special custom orders. Our museum like Showroom is still the old one, no need to change that place where so much great tours have been started off.
Just building up a nice vintage rack with my beloved , a and the legendary . I have as well another Time Machine which definetely come in the next days for an impossible amount of spacey sounds.
This ist the result of todays storage clean up. I found a very cool '88 squier neck, a body, an old fender trem and a great set of seymour duncans. For some magic reason it fitted all perfectly together for a great Partscaster. It plays and sounds great.
A great live session including video shot is coming to an end.....
Pedalboard 2.0 - My personal Pedalboard for a nice and fine Alternative Rock project. This Lehle Loop Switch is a great add on. Fully programmable and it includes a handy boost function.
Despite Roland is known for their ultra clean Solid State Amps. There was a time in the very early 80s, where they had a small run of hybrid tube amps. Powered with two 6L6GCs it has a convenient headroom which works great for smooth cleans or with any kind of pedal in front of it.
#2022
Merry Christmas to all my Friends, Customers and Musicians around the world. Even with again heavily reduced touring plans ( at least in Europe ), it was still a good time for plenty of studio work and alternative projects. Let´s all hope to see again more stages the next year, but first enjoy the festive season and have all a good start into 2022.
I just had this 1975 Colorsound Wah+Swell pedal in the postbox, and even after so many years in the Vintage-Business, I´m still impressed over again that a 40+ year old piece of gear can sound so flawlessly.
Here it is! Back from the Capjob and fully renovated, the Boogie MK-IIB.
Time for some new blonde Tolex for the latest arrival, a 1981 ( Mesa )Boogie Mark II-B. The housing is now ready, the chassis still in for a full restauration.
You´re not gonna see one of these very often. A G.1 Growler by Jennings, a smooth dark sounding Fuzz with adjustable Wah. Should be from ´71 as Mr. Jenning built them just for a very short time.
It´s time - and nothing fits better to that, than this pretty cool 80s Fender Lead III copy. She´s been on stage in all her early years, but was forgotten since then. Now it´s time for a second life with new Tuners, Fretwork and a brandnew Bridge. The Humbucker in the bridge is a old Maxon V2. ( very nice ! )
I love theses 80s Analog Synthesizers.
Having heard many of these old school "Hand-Clapping" devices already, this Coron DC-890 is by far the weirdest.
If you are after a classic Lo-Fi sound, with the possibility of creating some white noise and flat echo, this is the box to go.
Long before we had Pedalboards filled with hundreds of stompboxes... There were effects built like this fancy Monacor PZ-100 Phaser. No Stomp, just Box! And it still sounds fantastic.. Nothing wrong with an vintage analog Phaser.
This thing - cuts through the mix like nothing else...... One P90 is more than enough for this ultimate Rock Maschine.
This.... thing, is by far the heaviest 2x12 combo I ever had in my trunk. With 43kg and it's 100 watt out of 4 6L6s, it will blow the audience right through the front door. (and the stage hand directly to the Orthopedist)
Flightcase wisdom....
Just tested my new SWR SM400s from the 90s on an good old Ampeg-Fridge. What a fine piece of Bass Amp that is. Very nice Parametric EQ and more than enough power to shake the walls.
Another one of these nice 80s Acoustic G60T just came in from the service. I´m still not sure which one, the 100s or the 60s, I like most.
But one thing is for sure. Both versions ( also in their subversions ) have this very iconic rather dark sound, great for massive cleans and singing leads.
It really doesn't get any cooler than hearing former (classic 80s ) MAR gear, in a ( classic 80s) YouTube Guitar Cover. Raise your hands for Tommy Hayes' solo cover played through an early Lead 12.

Moving some air on last weeks Studio Session....
I'm glad we are doin a good job as well on our reverb.com page. C'mon the 200...
This week´s hunt for sound brought me directly to the most southern point in Germany. Picking up a 1965 Fender Bassman Blackface is always worth an extra ride.
Wah Wah Madness..... ⚠️
Meanwhile I have more of these brown, very old school looking, Acoustic Amps in my arsenal. But this one is the first head only version. There were several different versions of the G100T / 160 available in the early 80s, mostly to differentiate by the switches and input jacks.
This one with only one input and the 4 switches on the front must be from 80/81 ( Cap dates are 79 ). The base sound is always the same ( and that's why I love them so ) - Very loud straight forward cleans, and singing leads with the cascaded channel 2 added.
Not by any means a High Gain Amp, but very special and musical.
JEN Cry Baby 1972 with rare silver front plate. The volume function has been removed along with a true bypass mod. ( after the original switch was not reliable anymore ) Old wahs are mostly hit or miss, but this one is a real keeper.
