Renowned Whisky critic and author of the yearly editions of the Whisky Bible, Jim Murray has revealed his top picks for the ‘world best whiskies’ ahead of his scheduled 2019 bible release later this month. Each edition contains detailed and professionally analysed notes on the leading as well as lesser-known whiskies with scores out of 100 and ranks given by Jim himself.

Belgrove Distillery’s first mention by Jim was in 2015 after their Rye Whisky received 94.5 points earning the ‘Liquid Gold’ status. He commented that this was “perhaps the most concentrated rye arrival [he has] tasted for a couple of years from any part of the world… Just so sharp, almost three dimensional”. This same release was later picked up by celebrated Noma chef, Rene Redzepi in a prestigious Australian spirits list for their Sydney establishment.

Belgrove’s owner and distiller Peter Bignell has long had the reputation of being sustainable and very experimental in his method of creating his rye whiskies which is reflected in his unique previous and upcoming releases. In 2019, Belgrove Distillery will make another award-winning return this year’s edition with their Peated Rye Whisky taking out the ‘World Whiskies’ award for Southern Hemisphere Whisky of the Year. It will feature alongside other category winners from around the world as well as the additional 4,600 spirits Jim has reviewed. This edition marks the bibles 16th year in circulation and is available from the Dram Good book shop on the Whisky Bible website.

Hamburg is calling!

Ein Fest für den Wachholder-Schnaps! 2018 ist das deutsche Gin-Jahr, denn auch wir haben langsam aber ganz sicher großen Gefallen an der Spirituose gefunden. Immerhin erfand ein Hamburger den Gin Basil Smash und nicht zuletzt kommen international erfolgreiche Destillate wie Gin Sul und 5 Continent...
