Long before there were any pens, there was this boat, built by Frank himself.
We took it out with the whole team, past Speicherstadt, through HafenCity, out to a quiet bay for a picnic on the water.
It was somewhere in the middle of building this boat that the idea for ELBWOOD first took shape.
The full story is coming in 2027.

Frank has bought ebonite from the Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur in Hitzacker for years.
This time, he made his own, standing in the process himself rather than beside it, choosing and mixing the colors that would carry the atmosphere of his own atelier into the material.

In this reel, you see part of what that actually involves: raw material and color combinations coming together, then sitting for days in kettles, under heat and pressure, slowly turning into the hard, dense mass that becomes ebonite.
It's a slow, physical process, one that gave Frank a much closer relationship to a material he's worked with for a long time.

The SHORTCAP's grip section stays exposed instead of hiding under the cap, which is where the name comes from.
What's underneath is solid brass, knurled with grooves only 0.5 mm deep, cut with a knurling tool built specifically for this shape. It's a small technical detail, but a deliberate one: brass against the calm, satin finished ebonite, giving the pen a grip that's both practical and visually distinct.

Barrel and cap are made from Custom Edition Ebonite "Penmaker's Atelier," developed with the Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur in Hitzacker specifically for ELBWOOD.

Each pen carries an 18K gold nib from JoWo, in five widths, plus an optional 14K flex nib.

Limited to 24 pieces a year, numbered individually.

The machines in the Elbwood Atelier are old, precise, and controlled by hand, not by code.
Frank Pressentin works from solid material and shapes it directly on the lathe as it runs. Emotions transferred from hand to work, the way a sculptor works.
It's the only way, in his view, to create pieces that are truly unique.
No two are ever really the same.

Some bespoke requests ask us to build something visible.
This one asked for the opposite: a compartment no one would ever see, built to hold a signature from Eve Fleming, Ian Fleming's mother, found inside a rare first edition by the pencil's owner.

Getting that right meant reworking the POCKETPENCIL from the inside, a hidden chamber closing without a seam.
We built the body from 333 gold, plated in 999, a quiet nod to the gold typewriter Fleming himself used.

Before it was anything else, the Pocketmaster was ELBWOOD's first form, the model everything else grew from.

This special edition returns to it in its purest state: barrel, cap, and grip section cut entirely from The Penmaker's Atelier ebonite, the material Frank developed himself in Hitzacker.
It's the lightest instrument in the edition, small enough to disappear into a pocket, yet balanced enough to hold securely once the cap is posted. The exposed grip zone carries its knurled texture, cut precisely for control.

Limited to 48 pieces a year.
