Ferrari’s glory days of sports car racing excellence

Rainer W. Schlegelmilch captured sports car racing at its rawest. A glint of scarlet bodywork in the sun, the tension of the grid, rapt faces of fans, exchanges with teammates and spouses.

His famous use of the zoom was both commanding and intimate, compressing distance to heighten drama, while drawing viewers into the emotional core of the moment.

‘Rainer W. Schlegelmilch. Ferrari Sports Car Racing’ and its Art Edition’s are available on TASCHEN.com.

A world tour of traditional buildings in search of timeless architectural ideas

Before the evolution of theory, style or technology, there was the simple act of building. Celebrated French architect Jean Pistre explores this essential human gesture, tracing it across cultures, climates and centuries.

Sparked by a formative experience in the forests of southern Mexico, Pistre embarks on a journey through vernacular architecture around the world. He details and deconstructs 76 of the key dwellings he discovered: from igloos in Greenland to mud huts in Cameroon. Each study is expressed in the unifying graphic language of line drawings.

‘Jean Pistre. Tracing the Roots of Architecture. Traditional Buildings around the World’ is available on TASCHEN.com and in store.

5. A woman building a pygmy hut in Central Africa. In the equatorial forest, the lifestyle of hunter-gatherers is organized around temporary huts, the pygmy huts, erected in a few hours and abandoned as they move on. These are small, spherical structures with a framework of branches set in a circle, then bent and covered with large, woven leaves layered like roof tiles. Inside, a small, permanent fireplace keeps insects

Zara Beard reflects on her father’s work in ‘Peter Beard. The End of the Game’, an indispensable historical document of Africa’s wildlife crisis. Spanning two decades of Peter Beard’s photography, this landmark work captures a continent’s elephants, rhinos, and hippos against a landscape increasingly depleted by human ideas of progress. It reveals not only what was lost, but what these losses reflect in us.

This new edition includes an interview with conservationist Dr. Esmond Bradley Martin, alongside essays from previous editions. Exploring our distance from nature, density and stress, and the loss of common sense, this seminal portrait remains as resonant today, amid growing environmental crises, as it was half a century ago.

‘Peter Beard. The End of the Game’ is available on TASCHEN.com and in store.
