CAF suspends Senegal coach, Hakimi after AFCON 2025 final chaos.
The CAF Disciplinary Board has handed heavy sanctions to Senegal and Morocco following incidents during the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 final in Morocco.
Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was suspended for five CAF matches and fined $100,000 for unsporting conduct and bringing the game into disrepute. Senegal players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were also banned for two matches each for misconduct towards the referee.
The Senegal FA (FSF) was further fined a total of $615,000 for the improper behaviour of its supporters, players and technical staff.
On the Moroccan side, star defender Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two CAF matches, with one match suspended for one year. Midfielder Ismaël Saibari received a three-match ban and a $100,000 fine.
Morocco’s FA (FRMF) was also fined $315,000 for ball boy misconduct, VAR area invasion by team officials, and the use of lasers by supporters.
CAF also rejected Morocco’s protest against Senegal over alleged regulatory violations during the final.
