Με μεγάλη χαρά θα θέλαμε να ανακοινώσουμε ότι το ελαιόλαδο '' αρχοντικό '' απέσπασε το πρώτο βραβείο από το περιοδικό 'Γαστρονόμος' για το 2019.

Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε το περιοδικό 'Γαστρονομος' για αυτή τη μεγάλη διάκριση καθώς και τους εργαζόμενους και τους παραγωγούς μας που εργάστηκαν πολύ σκληρά για να επιτύχουν αυτό το επίτευγμα.

Αυτό το βραβείο μας δίνει τη δύναμη να συνεχίσουμε αυτή τη σκληρή δουλειά για να συνεχίσουμε να παραδίδουμε στο τραπέζι σας το καλύτερο ελαιόλαδο που μπορεί να παράγει η Κύπρος.

Is the colour of olive oil an important factor in assessing its quality? Yes, and no... Olive oil colour differs from variety to variety, and it ranges from greenish to yellowish. Also, colour depends on the maturity stage of the olives. The more mature the olives, the more yellowish is the colour. On the other hand, a fresh olive oil that is green at the start of its life will turn yellow if not properly stored. So, the answer is yes, and no...!

Tomato salad with feta and black olives

Ingredients:
4 ripe tomatoes
4 slices feta cheese
1 red onion sliced
One bunch crispy baby rocket leaves
A handful of black olives
4 tablespoons basil pesto
4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt and pepper to taste

Method:

Slice tomatoes in half and cut in thin slices.
Arrange tomato slices in the center of a dish one on top of the other.
Top with sliced onions and feta cheese.
Garnish with rocket leaves and mix in pesto (or add the pesto as a garnish around the rim of the plate).
Add olives and drizzle with olive oil.
Dust with sea salt and black pepper and serve.

One of the oldest trees in Cyprus, at Kofinou area! To realize how old it is, consider that it was planted before the French Revolution (1879), before the Greek revolution (1821) and even before the Kingdom of Great Britain came into being (1707). It was planted at the beginning of the Renaissance period! Apart from being a remarkable living organism that witnessed the evolution of history, it is also a piece of art itself that sculptors would envy.. Ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα σε ηλικία δέντρα στην Κύπρο, στην Κοφίνου! Για συνηδητοποιήσουμε πόσο μεγάλο είναι, σκεφτείτε ότι φυτεύτηκε πριν από την Γαλλική επανάσταση (1879), πριν από την Ελληνική επανάσταση (1821) και ακόμα πριν από την δημιουργεία της Μεγάλης Βρεττανίας το 1707. Φυτεύτηκε στην αρχή της περιόδου της Αναγέννησης! Εκτώς από το ότι είναι ένας εκπληκτικός ζωντανός οργανισμός, ο οποίος έζησε κοσμοιστορικά γεγονότα, είναι και ένα έργο τέχνης που θα ζήλευαν πολλοί γλύπτες..

Olive harvesting is at last evolving! After thousands of years, olive oil harvesting can now by fully mechanized. This has, as any technological advancement, good and bad aspects. Good ones: cheaper olive oil and better quality if done correctly. Bad ones: will make traditional plantations obsolete in the long run, as it requires specific varieties and flat areas; raises the barrier of entry for small producers increasing enormously economies of scale.
