He has taken part in a number of international chess tournaments. Since 1990 he has taken part in fewer tournaments and his predominant activity has become chess coaching. He has the title of International Chess Master, he is a FIDE coach and he is also International Master of Correspondence Chess. As a professional coach of "Partizan" Chess Club he worked with young players of different ages in t
he period between 1988 and 1999. He is the architect and one of the founders of the School of Champions of "Rad" Chess Club which started its work in 1996. His students have won a total of 14 youth championship titles of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, Serbia and 6 youth championship titles of Bosnia and Herzegovina. All the titles were won at the time when the author worked individually with the players. Of numerous students we should single out grandmasters Nikola Sedlak, Milos Perunovic, Bojan Vuckovic and Anđelija Stojanović, who currently represent the most promising chess players of Serbia. Slobodan Mirkovic has systematized around five thousand games from the practice of world's top chess players and created a card file, which makes the basis for work with young players. He is the author of a classification of chess combinations, which was a part of the information system of "Chess Informant" for more than 10 years as well as of a unique system ''Sirius'' which represents a complete systematization of chess game. He wrote a series of books titled ''Chess school'' of which the first four were translated into English and were official books of Youth Chess Championships in Herceg Novi in 2005, 2006 and 2008 and Albena, Bulgaria, in 2011. The first three books from this series have been translated into Hungarian. He is the author of the book ‘’From Steinitz to Topalov‘’ as well as chess textbooks ‘’Chess basics‘’, ‘’Magic of the game‘’, ‘’Masterstrokes on 64 squares‘’ and a co-author of ‘’Teachers’ manual‘’ for chess as an optional subject in primary schools in Montenegro. Šahom se bavi od svoje sedme godine. godine je nosilac titule internacionalnog majstora. Učesnik je više međunarodnih turnira. godine retko nastupa na turnirima, a glavna preokupacija mu postaje trenerski rad. Internacionalni je majstor, trener FIDE i internacionalni majstor dopisnog saha. Kao profesionalni trener ŠK "Partizan", u periodu od 1988. do 1999.godine, radi sa mladima različitog uzrasta. Idejni je tvorac i jedan je od osnivača "Škole sampiona" pri ŠK "Rad", koja je počela sa radom 1996. godine. Njegovi učenici osvojili su ukupno 14 titula kadetskih prvaka Jugoslavije, SCG, Srbije i 6 titula prvaka BIH. Sve titule su osvojene u trenutku kada je autor knjige radio sa njima individualno. Iz mnogobrojne grupe učenika svakako treba izdvojiti velemajstore Nikolu Sedlaka, Miloša Perunovića, Bojana Vuckovića i Anđeliju Stojanović koji trenutno predstavljaju najperspektivnije šahiste Srbije. Slobodan Mirković je sistematizovao oko pet hiljada partija iz prakse vrhunskih svetskih šahista i napravio je kartoteku, koja predstavlja osnovu u radu sa mladima. Autor je klasifikacije šahovskih kombinacija, koja je više od 10 godina bila značajan deo informacionog sistema "Šahovskog informatora", kao i jedinstvenog sistema "Sirius", koji predstavlja sistematizaciju celokupne šahovske igre. Napisao je serijal knjiga "Škola šaha" a prve četiri prevedene su na engleski jezik i bile su oficijelne knjige Kadetskih prvenstava Evrope 2005, 2006 i 2008 godine u Herceg Novom i 2011. godine u Albeni u Bugarskoj. Prve tri knjige iz serijala prevedene su na Mađarski jezik. Autor je knjige "Od Štajnica do Topalova" kao i udžbenika "Osnovi šaha", "Magija igre", "Majstorije na 64 polja" i koautor "Priručnika za nastavnike" za izborni predmet šah u osnovnim školama u Crnoj Gori.
