Recent developments in light-emitting diode (LED) technology have led to the commercial availability of UVC LED sources.

UVC LED's use semiconductor materials to produce light in a solid-state device. The wavelength of emission is tune-able by adjusting the chemistry of the semiconductor material, giving a selectivity to the emission profile of the LED across, and beyond, the germicidal wavelength band. Advances in understanding and synthesis of the AlGaN materials system led to significant increases in the output power, device lifetime, and efficiency of UVC LED's in the early 2010th.

The reduced size of LED's opens up options for small reactor systems allowing for point-of-use applications and integration into medical devices.

Germicidal lamps are used to sterilize work spaces and tools used in biology laboratories and medical facilities. The new LED germicidal light bulbs also used for sterilization of sanitary room's, stairways, elevators, super markets and many more applications.

What are UVC Lights?
UVC lights are UV germicidal bulbs that emit very short ultraviolet wavelengths from 100 to 280 nanometers that damages the DNA of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. UVC light does this by damaging the nucleic acid in microorganisms so they cannot unzip for replication. This means the organism cannot reproduce and will die. The kill rate of UVC light depends on the specific microorganism you are trying to combat as well as the dosage it receives from the lamp. Dosage is a combination of exposure time and intensity (microwatts per square centimeter). Be sure you know how much ultraviolet light you need before selecting a specific lamp.
