Applications are now open for the V-Label Awards in a new national edition!

Companies can now submit their best vegan innovations for the 𝗩-𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 and the 𝗩-𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆.

This year, organizes the national edition of the V-Label Awards celebrating the positive impact and innovation of the industry in Spain.

The 𝗩-𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 have 4 categories to apply for:

1️⃣ Sustainability
2️⃣ Innovation
3️⃣ Marketing and branding
4️⃣ Consumer’s choice

Apply before 22 July and get a 𝟱𝟬% 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 on your application.

Only a couple of days left before January, and thus, next year’s Veganuary, comes into full force - meaning our ultimate Food Hero of 2023 is no other than the fantastic Toni Vernelli, International Head of Policy and Communications.

🐇 From PETA protests to grassroots campaigns to close down laboratories, and from getting out in the fields to stop animal hunting to undercover investigations in farmhouses, Toni has been on the front line fighting for animal rights over the past 30 years. What drove her into Veganuary was that the focus was on the positives rather than the cruelty – an encouraging, non-judgemental, and inspiring space to explore change in diet and thinking. That, and also the massive impact it has had worldwide on getting people to try vegan food. 🌱

Ready to meet another Food Hero? 🦸‍♀️

Growing up in the swamps of Florida, Leah Garcés, the first female Latinx president of Mercy For Animals remembers her backyard always filled with wild ducks. “They’d lay their eggs in my mom’s prized flower beds,” she recalls. “I’d lie on my belly on our screened-in porch and watch the ducks hatch, watch their lives unfold. I grew up with no doubt in my mind that these ducks, and all animals, are full of complex emotions, wants, and needs.” In her adult life, she’s partnered with some of the largest food companies in the world - as well as unlike allies - with a mission to end factory farming. 🐓 It all took off when she was fifteen.

Meet Anja Hazekamp, our next Food Hero: From rescuing wounded animals as a child to championing animal rights in the European Parliament, Anja's journey started with empathy, evolving into a commitment to a plant-based lifestyle in the 80s. 🌱

✊A biologist turned activist, she realized the power of policy in creating lasting change. Elected to the regional parliament in 2007 and the European Parliament in 2014, Anja remains an animal rights activist at heart.

Justice-oriented by default, Marc was a very angry kid. “I was frustrated with seeing injustices, and couldn’t stand to see the way we treated animals and our planet,” he recalls of his early start to activism. In fact, he left high school to lead international animal rights organizations to fight for what he believed in.

Today, he’s the co-founder of Heura Foods, Europe’s fastest growing plant-based food tech company with a mission to become the net-positive food champion by 2028. Some of their recent developments include a patented technology allowing them to create meat and fish alternatives without any additives, and setting up a pop-up vegan butcher shop in one of Barcelona’s oldest markets.

Heura is also a double winner in this year’s V-Label Awards: their F’sh Filet won in the Innovation category, and they were also awarded for their groundbreaking marketing and branding.
