Venez essayer !

Jacques Boquay (c. 1680–1730)
Along with Claude Pierray (1700-1740), this author marked the beginning of the "Vieux Paris" school.
According to Sylvette Millot's work, he lived in modest circumstances: he rented his studio with a bedroom on the first floor, and had three suits in his wardrobe, one for weekdays, one for Sundays, and one for Holidays. This contrasts with the situation of later authors Jean Baptiste Salomon (1713-1767) and Louis Guersan (1700-1770), who owned several properties.
Despite his modest circumstances as a craftsman, Boquay's work is very fine and delicate, based on models from the Amati family. His beautiful oil varnish is a characteristic that distinguishes him from later makers of the "Vieux Paris" school.
The varnish is exceptionally well preserved on the back of this violin, built around 1720. The sound is refined, rich in harmonics and powerful. This instrument has been completely restored by the Atelier Schilbach.

The International Menuhin Music Academy is entering a new era—driven by greater enthusiasm, renewed energy, and more ambitious projects than ever before.

Thanks to the unwavering commitment of its faculty, the daily dedication of its team, and the strategic expertise of distinguished lawyer Loïc Pfister, the Academy now stands on profoundly strengthened institutional, legal, and academic foundations—firmly laying the groundwork for sustained growth and excellence.

With its main life and studies centered at the Villa in Tartegnin, where learning and daily work become art, the Academy also has the privilege of rehearsing and
performing within the inspiring spaces of Institut Le Rosey in Rolle, including The Rosey Concert Hall. We are deeply grateful for this generosity, which provides our students with an exceptional environment to grow, to share, and to live the values of Yehudi Menuhin—a spirit of dialogue, generosity, and the pursuit of inner truth.
IMMA proudly welcomes a new generation of young virtuosi, whose exceptional talent and dedication already bring distinction to the institution through their performances.

They embark on a richly promising journey of concerts, competitions, and daily artistic pursuit, united by a shared passion for music and its deeper human values, growing not only as musicians but as ambassadors of culture and connection.

We warmly invite you to witness, celebrate, and be part of this commitment to music at its finest.

As part of the Geneva International Viola Competition @ Concours de Genève , the Swiss Association of Violin and Bow Makers is organising an exhibition of contemporary violas: ALTOGETHER. We are delighted to be presenting two instruments based on models by Goffriler and Guadagnini. This is a unique opportunity for us to meet violists from around the world and, of course, to exchange ideas with our dear colleagues from all over Switzerland.
Keep posted to know more about the instruments🎻

One of the best-known German bow makers workshops is Hermann Richard Pfretzschner’s.
The quality of the bows produced by this family from Markneukirchen is characterised by great reactivity and a rapid response to the string, putting them in direct competition with French bows.
From 1874 to 1880, Hermann Richard Pfretzschner worked in J.B. Vuillaume's workshop. On his return, he opened his own workshop in Markneukirchen. On 1 February 1901, Hermann Richard received the title of official supplier to the Saxon court and the right to use its coat of arms (two lions supporting a shield), which he systematically applied to the heads and then the frogs of his bows. The workshop continues to use these coats of arms to this day.
This bow is a magnificent example of the refined workmanship of this workshop. It is available for trial in our workshop.
