An extraordinary large and rare 19th century medal from the royal Savoy collection!

Italy, Savoy. Carlo Alberto — Bronze Medal 1845, commemorating the inauguration of the Sesia Bridge, from the collection of Her Royal Highness Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy by descent from the kings Victor Emmanuel III and Umberto II.

In 1845 the new bridge over the Sesia River in Vercelli was inaugurated. To mark the occasion, a large commemorative medal engraved by Giuseppe Ferraris, the official mint engraver, was struck at the Royal Mint of Turin.

Measuring 108.5 millimetres and weighing 852.38 grams, it is among the largest European medals of the 19th century.

The obverse shows the portrait of King Carlo Alberto, while the reverse depicts the figure of Fame inscribing the date, with the bridge in the distance.

Only twelve examples were struck before the reverse die broke, making this medal exceptionally rare; in fact, all examples seen in public sales in recent years were later casts.

The Nobel Family Album: A Rare Glimpse into the Golden Age of Innovation ✨📜

A priceless historical treasure 📖: This exceptional photo album (1901-1902), preserved by Rolf Nobel, son of Ludwig Nobel, offers an intimate look at one of the most influential families of the 19th century. 🌍

🛢️ Beyond the Nobel Prize and dynamite, the Nobels built Branobel, a petroleum empire that transformed global energy and trade. This collection of 36 photographs captures rare moments:

📸 Gösta & Emil Nobel, key figures of Branobel, seen in their youth before leading the company through the turmoil of the Russian Revolution.
🏡 Kirjola & Wyborg, the family’s elegant estates, where influential figures gathered and lasting connections were forged.
🤝 Hans Olsen, Branobel’s general manager and a close friend of the Nobel brothers, representing the trusted alliances behind their success.
📷 The final images of Kirjola, demolished during WWII—a haunting reminder of the impermanence of even the grandest legacies.

A journey through time, from prosperity to upheaval. A unique opportunity for collectors to own a piece of history.

Silver, element 47 of the periodic table has long been cherished for its lustrous beauty and versatility, becoming an integral part of human history, particularly as jewelry, tableware and coinage.

In antiquity, civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans revered silver not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its perceived mystical properties. It was believed to possess protective qualities against evil spirits, making it a popular choice for jewelry. Nowadays its antibacterial qualities are scientifically proven.
As societies evolved, so did the significance of silver. During the Middle Ages, silver became a symbol of wealth and power in Europe. Nobles wore intricate silver jewelry, often encrusted with precious gemstones, as a demonstration of their status. Meanwhile, silver tableware became synonymous with opulent banquets and lavish feasts hosted by the aristocracy.
The Renaissance period witnessed a resurgence of interest in classical aesthetics, leading to a revival of silver craftsmanship. Artisans refined their skills, creating elaborate pieces with intricate designs and exquisite detail. Silver jewelry became a canvas for artistic expression, featuring motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and religious symbolism.
The Industrial Revolution brought about significant changes in silver production techniques, making it more accessible to a broader audience. Mass production methods allowed for the creation of affordable silverware and jewelry, democratizing its use beyond the aristocracy.
In the modern era, silver continues to hold a special place in both jewelry and tableware. Its timeless elegance and versatility make it a favorite among designers and consumers alike. From classic pieces to contemporary designs that embrace minimalist aesthetics, silver remains a fascinating metal.

Contemporary January - Next Friday

In collaboration with Greg Podgorski, Geneva Collections is thrilled to present you our Contemporary January. To start 2024 on a fresh note we’ve curated an exhibition featuring the works of two talented artists, Maria Kiesner and Marta Kochanek.

Maria Kiesner, known for her architectural paintings, has honed her craft for years. She brings buildings to life with confident strokes, inspired by photographs and urban landscapes. A key moment in Maria’s journey was the Villa Richter project in 2015, questioning the role of painting in the age of photography.

Throughout the years Maria’s creativity remained undaunted. Her studio, filled with everyday objects, births extraordinary paintings. The presented works transcend representation, leading viewers into a space where associations dissolve into rhythmic abstractions.

Marta Kochanek, on the other hand, paints scenes from the past, using old family photos, ads, and film stills. Merging the 1950s-1970s with the present, she expresses a longing for a slower time. Marta’s art aims to evoke positive feelings in pop art style.

In her paintings, everyday moments require no explanations. Groups of people are outlined against white canvases, inviting viewers to engage their imagination. Despite its simplicity, Marta’s art radiates warmth, humor, and nostalgia.

Together, we invite you to explore Maria’s and Marta’s art, discovering the inspiration behind each piece.
