Voskhod Gallery

Voskhod Gallery Contemporary online art gallery. Operating from Basel, with worldwide shipping.

The pandemic has significantly re-imagined how we can exhibit contemporary art in a more effective and environmentally conscious way. It has definitely affected, in a creative way, the question of efficiency and how we can reduce our carbon footprint. Starting from this point, Voskhod Gallery is aimed to propose a platform for experimentation on presentation, displaying and distribution of art. Vo

skhod Gallery was founded as an online gallery with physical nods in Basel and Moscow to ensure that young generation of cutting-edge artists without gallery representation and international career could have their own voices heard, instead of being spoken for by those already in power. With that in mind, Voskhod Gallery refuses the traditional gallery system to compose a limited list of the artists of a long-term collaboration but, instead, Voskhod Gallery constructs it's programming around experimental group exhibitions staged in unconventional locations strictly for online presentation in collaboration with leading young photographers, graphic designers and video makers. Each group show published online on Voskhod Gallery's website is a reflection on zeitgeist and proposal on alternative way to curate and show art online in a visually overloaded world. Voskhod Gallery champions the artists, who participate in the group shows providing a safe space for opportunity, advice, and support through personal approach and in-depth interviews. Voskhod Gallery is trying to be a force for change and believes that artists should be at the center of the art world, not gallerists or dealers, and this is a first step in changing that status quo by approaching even the process of selling art online with spirit of experimentation and joy.

Wooden Dog Sculptures by Stasia Grishina — between playfulness and unease, love and cruelty
--------------

Discarded cupboards and doors turn into dog-like figures — fragile bodies of memory in a space where attachment, observation, and power intertwine.
Between playfulness and unease, between love and cruelty, the installation turns naïve curiosity into a reflection on desire, control, and the boundaries between the living and the social.

First look at “In the Twilight” — a new series by Misha Gudwin.
--------------

«The landscapes are based on photographs I took of real locations, but with the addition of various abstract, glowing shapes that suggest something between natural optical phenomena and paranormal occurrences. They depict the evening hours, the moment when dusk falls—a transitional period between night and day, a liminal zone that holds sacred significance in many cultures. It is a brief window of time when the unpredictable may occur. The painting style is intentionally soft and blurred, creating a misty, slightly mysterious, and subtly magical effect.»

Shifting perspectives: Voskhod welcomes Stasia Grishina as a new represented artist.
—---------

Stasia Grishina, a Frankfurt-based artist with a background in stage design and sculpture, explores how socio-political structures shape personal identity and behavior. Her multidisciplinary practice — encompassing sculpture and painting — investigates the complex dynamics between humans and animals, most often dogs, as mirrors of social hierarchies and emotional dependency. Through hybrid, animal-like forms, Grishina examines systems of control, empathy, and attachment that define the human condition.

Studio visit with CickInDunt cickindunt (Anna & Vitaly Cherepanov) offered a glimpse into their working world—past projects, current experiments, and the everyday atmosphere of their practice. We talked about the “game of life” and why it can be so important to rethink and re-invent its rules.

This idea of re-imagining structures naturally resonated with another central theme in their practice: community and the question of how we live together. As the artists shared:

“At some point we left Russia, guided by the feeling that we wanted to be part of a community. Now we are here, in the Ateliergemeinschaft Mythenquai in Wollishofen, Zurich. It brings together people with different backgrounds and languages—French, Italian, Swiss, German, Russian, Belarusian… For us, this is what matters: building and experiencing communities, exploring how to live together. Not only in one space, not only in one city, but on one planet.”

Their words highlight the essence of their practice: art as a way of connecting and creating spaces of exchange.

APPENZELLER / MEN EXPLAIN THINGS TO ME
—---------

With this monumental work Vitaly Cherepanov draws on tradition of Swiss folk imagery, connecting it to his continued work with naïve art.

At the centre stands a young woman in a light-blue Appenzeller costume, a figure familiar from Swiss beer labels, yet here she refuses a decorative role. She disrupts a chess game—after Paris Bordone’s Two Chess Players—by throwing Rebecca Solnit’s Men Explain Things to Me (2014) onto the table, spilling beer and unsettling what might have been a patriarchal idyll.

In the right corner, Cherepanov quotes Antonio Veneziano’s icon of Saint James the Greater, isolating only the apostle’s hand. Removed from its sacred context, the gesture no longer blesses but bargains, showing how even faith or feminism can be rebranded and sold.

The painting becomes a blend of Swiss folk art, symbolism, satire of patriarchy, and a sharp reflection on how capitalism consumes ideals, stripping them of purity and turning them into commodities.
