This Friday, Freba Pottery will officially open as Saskatchewan’s Potter ÉCONOMUSÉE®.

Many people have asked what an ÉCONOMUSÉE is.

An ÉCONOMUSÉE is more than a gallery or studio. It is a place where visitors can discover the story behind the craft, learn about the process, and connect with the artisan who makes the work.

For me, this recognition represents years of building Freba Pottery—from making pottery in my studio, to teaching workshops, hosting Claycations, welcoming visitors to the honour-system highway store, and sharing the story of handmade pottery on the Saskatchewan prairie.

This Friday we will celebrate that journey with an official ribbon cutting, artisan market, and community gathering.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Freba Pottery along the way.

Twenty-three years ago, I sat down at a pottery wheel for the first time.

I never imagined that one day a little pottery studio on the Saskatchewan prairie would become an official ÉCONOMUSÉE®.

What started as learning something new became a business, then a studio, then workshops, Claycations, an honour-system highway store, and now a place where visitors can experience the story behind the pottery.

On June 19, we’ll officially celebrate this milestone with a ribbon cutting, artisan market, and community gathering.

As I prepare for the opening, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for every person who has bought a piece of my pottery, attended a workshop, attended a claycation, stopped at the highway store, shared a post, or encouraged me along the way.

Thank you for helping make this dream possible.

A funny thing happens when people sit down at a pottery table.

The first thing I hear is usually:

“I’ve never done this before.”

The second thing I hear is:

“This is actually really fun.”

On Sunday we’ll spend two hours slowing down, creating with our hands, and making something from clay.

No experience required.
No artistic background required.
No pressure to make it perfect.

Just a chance to step away from the busy and try something different.

Have you ever wanted to try pottery but weren’t sure where to start?

On June 7 from 3-5, I’ll be hosting a 2-hour handbuilding workshop in the Schoolhouse Studio at Freba Pottery.

No experience required.

I’ll guide you step-by-step as you create a functional piece from clay using simple handbuilding techniques. The best part? You don’t need to be artistic or “good at pottery” to have success.

Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

✨ 2 hours
✨ All materials included
✨ Small group atmosphere
✨ Your finished piece glazed and fired for pickup later

Sometimes the best way to spend an afternoon is to try something you’ve never done before.

Tonight I welcome Claycation #30.

Thirty groups.
Women from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia.
Hundreds of pieces of pottery.
Countless conversations around the table.

What began as an idea has become a community.

This evening another group will arrive, settle into the attic, create in the schoolhouse, gather around the table, and spend the weekend creating with clay.

I never take that trust for granted.
