She would have been 79 today.
My Nana passed away on March 20, 2024, and thus the granny square I made for week 12 of 2024 is in her honour. She loved to quilt and so I made what are often considered to be "quilting squares" in crochet and placed a frog in the centre as they were her favourite. Her mother always told her to live like a frog- they can only jump forwards, never backwards.
She passed a mere 39 days after my papa, who passed on February 10, 2024. So I made him a square as well for week 6, but it took me a long time to settle on a design for him. There were so many things I remembered him for and finally I saw this pattern for an angel heart granny square and I immediately knew I could adjust it to look like a little crab. Some of my fondest memories with my papa are when we would go out on his boat and check the crab traps. For a girl who has a fear of the ocean his strong calm presence always made it easy for me to want to go along and be involved in the whole process.

Both of their squares have the sparkly blue yarn in them to represent their love of the ocean, their home on the island and their connection to each other. Plus the square I made for my Nana was made mostly with yarn that I inherited from her (dark green and white).

I'm finally back with another update on my 2024 memory quilt! This is week 8!
This was the week I watched my brother-in-law's team secure the gold medal and their place at the men's national volleyball tournament at the college university level! Not only did they win, but it was an intense fight to the last point, which was secured by my brother-in-law with an incredible block.
The navy represents their team colour and the gold trim represents, well, winning the gold.

This square was a freehand design by me, but inspired by volleyball applique.

I was so excited when I found out a friend was having a baby girl because it meant I finally had a reason to try out some of the cute baby girl patterns I kept seeing.

So today's post is in honour of the amazing mothers I know. I am inspired by their strength, dedication and devotion. This post is also for all those in my life who are still longing and waiting for motherhood, I see you and I pray for you. And of course this post is also for my mama, shout-out to who raised me with a loving heart, who pushed me to be better and ultimately has been someone who has inspired me in how I raise my own child.

Memory blanket week 6 (part 1): my son and I flew to BC to visit family ❀️

I switched it up this week and instead of making a traditional Granny square I did a c2c block instead. C2C means corner to corner and is similar to making pixel art of perler beads and works up surprisingly fast!

It will probably be a little while until part 2 is ready, as I will be designing the pattern myself- but stay tuned!

Memory Square week 5: "Medicine"

My toddler had an ear infection this week, so we picked up that lovely banana flavoured amoxicillin from the pharmacy. The medicine has not only helped him feel better, but he now has a new word in his vocabulary too, "messin" (medicine). And thankfully like me, he's a fan of the banana flavour which has made getting better a breeze.
