This is by far the grimmest and potentially one of the most played acoustics that's ever landed on my bench! Grime tones for days...

This '69 Yamaha FG-180 is in for a bridge shave, new handmade bone saddle, a few brace glue ups and a shiny new pickguard. The old one walked off the job years ago.

On the bench today is a relatively mysterious guitar with the name Sibra on the inside label. I have never heard of this brand before and I'm quite sure I would remember a headstock carving like this one. Not to mention the genuine vine branding brunt right onto the back! She's in for a new nut, a few lifting frets pressed back in and then a full setup.

Here's an example of how to save a nut from the trash. The low E string has been worn down over decades of playing and string changes... so I packed the old nut slot with bone shavings and added layers of CA Glue, then repeated the process. Once the slot had been completely filled in, it was a simple matter of cutting a new slot. This being a vintage instrument, I was happy to save the original nut and even avoid a nut shimming. If you can avoid removing integral parts from vintage instruments, you're properly preserving and keeping the instrument playing and sounding as it should.

On the bench today is a 70's pre-lawsuit era Ibanez - "Les Paul" Custom. This one has some great body carves, acrylic pickup covers and some of the flattest frets you'll ever see. Even with some super flat frets, it's sounding and feeling great after receiving a full setup and a touch of nut work.

Working on a sunburst Epiphone Dot today. Left to right nut conversion, added a pickguard and a full setup. Epiphone's rendition of an ES-335. This one has a great Joe Bonamassa vibe to it.
