Today we are celebrating Kate 💙 Arctic Connection Rankin Inlet
Meet Kate Lindell - 16 years old, and part of our team since January 4th, 2023.
Kate works as a cashier, but she is so much more than that. She’s the warm hello behind the counter, the friendly face that makes people feel welcome, and the kind of energy that helps our store feel like a community space not just a place to shop.
And beyond her role here, I want to say this too: Kate is a daughter, a sister, a cousin, and a friend. She matters to people. She’s someone’s safe place. Someone’s laugh. Someone’s pride. She is someone’s whole world. And she’s truly the kind of girl you can’t help but root for.
When Kate first started with us, she was quiet. Polite. Observing. Learning. And honestly, that’s completely normal when you’re starting a job . But over time shift by shift something beautiful happened.
She grew.
Kate shared that the thing she’s most proud of learning since starting this job is how to communicate and start conversations. That might sound small to some people, but it isn’t. It takes courage to speak up. It takes confidence to connect. It takes effort to keep showing up, even on days where you feel shy or unsure. Watching Kate come out of her shell has been such a privilege and I mean that genuinely.
When asked what she enjoys most about working here, she said:
“Hanging out with co-workers and talking with our customers.”
And if you know Kate, you know how true that is. She’s someone who can make a customer feel comfortable, someone who can laugh with the team, someone who brings a calm, kind presence into the workplace. She’s become more outgoing, more confident, and she credits her family, friends and co-workers for helping her grow which makes us so proud, because that means we’re doing something right as a workplace. A job should build you up, not break you down.
Kate shared something that really touched our heart about working in her own community:
“To serve people in my community feels like being a part of it.”
That right there is what Arctic Connection is all about. Community serving community. People supporting people. And youth stepping into roles that matter. We don’t just need young people to “get jobs” we need them to feel valued, capable, and connected. Kate is a perfect example of that.
When asked what she likes most about the people she works with, she said:
“That they are friendly and always have a smile.”
And I can honestly say the same about her she is one of those smiles.
We also asked her what she would say to other youth thinking about getting their first job, and she said:
“To make sure they don’t bum out while working.”
And I totally get what she means work can feel overwhelming when you’re young and learning. But Kate has shown that when you give yourself a chance, you grow into it. You gain confidence. You gain life skills. You start realizing you can do hard things.
Kate’s goals for the future are beautiful. She wants to become an artist or do writing, and one day she hopes to publish a book 📖✨ She also said she hopes to be financially stable and I just want to say: the way you show up, the way you’re growing, and the goals you have… you are already building the foundation for that future.
One of my favorite answers of hers was what she’s excited about right now:
“That I have friends who I am comfortable with.”
And what makes her proud to be her:
That she’s grown confidence because of her friends and co-workers.
That melts my heart because confidence is not something you wake up with one day. It’s something you build. And Kate is building it.
When asked who she looks up to, Kate said she looks up to her dad, because he is hardworking and always tries to make people the best person they can be. You can see that influence in her her quiet determination, her work ethic, her willingness to learn, and her kindness.
Kate… you are not “just” a cashier.
You are part of this store’s heartbeat.
You are proof that confidence can grow.
You are proof that youth in this community are strong, capable, and full of promise.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for learning.
Thank you for your smile.
Thank you for being part of Arctic Connection. 💙
And I’m saying this now: one day when your book is published, we can’t wait to be first in line to get our copy and cheer you on every step of the way. 📖✨
