Thanks Mayor Gillingham for coming to meet with us at Just Like New to You this morning.

We appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule hearing our safety concerns and we welcome your support to date with helping increase street patrols and police presence in our area.

We had a great meeting followed by a first hand stroll around our neighbourhood so he could see first hand what we are experiencing.

Our security gate and rock glass for our front window are now installed. Such a huge relief for us. 😊

We just wrapped up our 2025-26 AGM, and we’re thrilled to share that it was another record‑breaking year at Just Like New to You. Thanks to our generous donors who support our work — we were able to contribute an incredible $92,500 to support patient care at HSC.
Here’s how your support made a difference this year:
• Savour New Zealand – $50,000 Matching Champion, helping purchase urgently needed equipment for the Adult Emergency Department
• HSC Radiothon – $15,000 Fund‑A‑Need, supporting equipment for Women’s Health
• Gaze Interactive Device – $25,000 for eye‑controlled technology that helps patients who cannot speak or move communicate with loved ones
• Pet Therapy Program – $2,500 to support the therapy dogs who bring comfort and calm to patients and staff
A special thank‑you to our Friends of JLNTY, whose donated services — from rent reduction, to snow clearing and electrical work and more — you helped keep our overhead low so more dollars could go directly to patient care.

Congratulations to one of our regulars who was the proud winner of our second gift basket for our 21st anniversary. The basket was filled to the brim with tasty treats and a number of gift certificates thanks to a number of local businesses.

Please all levels of government, we need to come together to deal with what we are currently experiencing. This past Wednesday, one of our dedicated volunteers was scared to open up because the front and back vestibules were filled with people who were using drugs, being combative and aggressive.

We are trying to provide a service in the neighbourhood. The police and street patrol have stepped up presence but as soon as they leave the bus shelters are full and our customers and volunteers are scared.

This issue cannot be addressed in a piece meal approach. We need to come together to meet and discuss solutions not bandaids.

What a day at the shop.
Busy from the moment we opened — the kind of day that reminds us why our work matters so much.

Our customers lifted us up in every way today: one arrived with a box of timbits, many shared hugs and congratulations… and then, something extraordinary. A customer quietly donated $3,000 toward our security gates and rock glass to help keep our volunteers and our little shop safe.

We are humbled. We are grateful.
And the donations just keep pouring in, giving us plenty of work to keep us moving.

All we can say is thank you — for every kindness, every gift, every visit, every bit of support. 💛
