Spring Switch-up! (Because this weather is blah!)

My daughter has been playing with her “bunny” bin everyday for the last couple of weeks so this mama figured it’s time for a little switch up! I took out some of the bunnies and eggs and added some new digging tools (as my girl loves to “dig dig dig”), carrots, 5 little ducks (so we can incorporate her fave song), some chicks, and a few other extras for her to discover.

Can’t wait to see what my girl thinks of the new set-up! 🐰 🥕 🐥

Sensory play doesn’t need to be overly complicated! In this case Amelia was happy to just “dig dig dig” in the plain rice and find all the bunnies and eggs that were hiding. Scoops, spoons and a mini bucket were added to help her work on her fine motor skills, and of course some bunny-shaped Easter eggs were included so Amelia could fill them with rice and shake shake shake!

Inexpensive, quick to set up, and most importantly fun! 🐰 🪺

Lately I’ve noticed the quality of store-bought play dough (the name brand kind!) has not been great- I’m finding it sticky, doesn’t last very long, and just not the same quality as it used to be.

Amelia and I decided to make some of our own grinchy green play dough today and boy oh boy is there ever a difference! It’s super soft, not sticky, and if stored correctly will last for many months!

Play dough orders will open in the new year because all kids should have soft dough! ❄️

As promised here’s another idea for a simple winter sensory bin you can make at home! ❄️

This one features the cutest snowflake pasta shapes as well as chick peas (Amelia’s favourite as they make the coolest little “clank” sound when they go into the little metal buckets!)

All I did was add some extra materials I had from other sensory bins: acrylic ice cubes (perfect for stacking), trees, acrylic snowflakes, bells that jingle, and some Christmas character finger puppets.

Amelia loved sorting the filler (chick peas into one container, snowflake pasta in another) and she loves saying “Oh oh oh” (translation: Ho Ho Ho) whenever she interacts with the Santa finger puppet.

Simple, easy to clean up and most importantly super engaging for my almost 2-year old! ❄️ 🎅

This gingerbread sensory bin is still going strong! ❄️

Amelia is learning how to keep the filler in the bin (“nean-uh” translation: clean-up if a lot spill out). She’s also working on her fine motor skills by scooping with different tools, and her independent play is improving! (Which is a necessity with a 2 month old sister!)

The benefits of sensory play are endless! Stay tuned for a new bin idea you can make at home, coming later this week!

When you have 2 under 2 (including a new baby!), sensory bins to the rescue! Amelia played with this gingerbread themed bin for over an hour!

Did she end up getting chick peas all over the floor? Absolutely! But sensory play is meant to be messy sometimes and it’s a great lesson in “clean up” when she was all done playing.

While I am not currently taking new orders (because again 2 under 2 🫣), here is what you can use to create your own gingerbread themed bin:

❄️ painted chick peas or dyed rice as the base
❄️ felt gingerbread pieces (I made these myself)
❄️ different colours and sizes of pom poms
❄️ scoops and spoons
❄️ little containers to scoop into
❄️ any other small toys or objects (you can even play I-spy!)

A couple of cuties with their new sensory bins! 🪴 🦺

Did you know you can customize any sensory bin I already have in stock? For example, a lot of families may not love sand as a filler for inside the home as it can get messy- as a solution, the “Construction” sensory bin can be made with rice instead! A lot easier to tidy up and kids love the sound and feeling of rice for sensory play!
