I received these messages this morning. She has since blocked me so I could not respond further, not that it would have made much difference. Slut shaming and victim blaming is a KEY tool rapists use to silence their victims into submission. People can have as much s*x as they want with as many people as they want. Women, in particular because of the numbers, can drink as much as they want in any bar that they want to. If a person is too drunk to consent, then having s*x with that person is illegal. It doesn’t matter if you had s*x with them the day before or an hour before, forcing yourself on to someone that is too drunk to consent is s*xual assault. I had a friend say to me the other day, reflecting on the first time she was assaulted, that she never said anything because she thought it was just part of the ‘gig’ of being a woman. We have so internalized and accepted these narratives that we shame and blame ourselves and other women. I refuse to be silent about this anymore.
