I have seen a lot of non ally posts lately that are getting all crazy about what pride means to them.
This is not a whether they are a they/them, him/he, she/her situation here folks.
This post is about what it feels like to feel like your life isn’t worth living.
This is about the fact that kids have so much influence in their lives: parents, family, friends, teachers, the list goes on and how you influence these kids every damn day.
Whether they want to follow religion or politics in their own way, wear their hair a fun new way, dress like big bird, wear rainbow makeup or different than “norm” shoes and clothes. You/we as a society should be encouraging them to be their most authentic selves and represent themselves however that may be.
I was a girl who dressed a bit different than others, I loved my leopard print platform sandals, I painted my nails and experimented with hairstyles and makeup all throughout high school. There was even a time where I would wear all silver clothing and put on silver lipstick and I am SO GLAD my parents didn’t put a damper on ANY of it. I have felt supported my entire life and I am so thankful for my parents. As I am now a bonus mom to two AMAZING kids, my life has changed so much in such an amazing way. I couldn’t imagine these two or any of their cousins or friends thinking their lives aren’t worth living to the fullest just because of who they fall in love with. I will PROMISE them ALL that I will encourage all the stuff they bring our way (unless they’re on their way to jail, we better have a chat😅). I am so proud of them saying about others that it’s, “ok to be gay!”. Because it is OKAY TO BE WHOEVER AND WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE IN YOUR OWN DAMN LIFE!
It breaks my heart there are children and even adults, who feel as though they would be judged so harshly about something so heart fulfilling for this person. Nobody should feel so defeated, judged, frustrated, angry, overwhelmed, or confused, that they think about unaliving themselves.
Please stay with us, you’re always going to figure it out along the way just like everyone else is. Nobody promised it was going to be easy but baby it’s worth it. ♥️
