This is the new Backcountry Spark Deflector 🛡️

It bolts directly onto the upper wraps of the coil and helps block sparks whichever direction you choose.

That stainless shield also reflects some of the radiant heat coming off the fire instead of letting it disappear in every direction.

And because the whole thing is adjustable, you can rotate it around the coil (yes, before you start the fire) and position it wherever it makes the most sense for your setup.
