Today Gareth and I are celebrating twenty years as co-owners of Legends Comics & Books in Victoria. Much has changed in society and the marketplace but we have forged on against a sea of troubles always opposing if not entirely able to end them. This is due to the love of course, the love of the wonderful medium of comics, not just our love but the readers as well. Let's carry on and see how long we can keep this quixotic thing going.

A reminder of our Big Event today.

International Comic Book superstar SIMON ROY will be signing his new graphic novel GRIZ GROBUS.

He describes it as a Sci-Fi Comedy that takes two stories from two universes and intertwines them into an exploration of religion, pacifism, and most importantly, the power of food in both bringing people together and driving them apart.

Simon burst on the scene as a wunderkind artist whose work was compared to the French icon Moebius from the beginning of his career. His writing lies on the borderland of speculative science fiction, and his stories have been published by many of the major publishers.

I would kindly ask you to allow me a moment of shameless self-boosterism. It is the time of the year when the Times Colonist has its Readers' Choice Awards. If you know me and Gareth, it may be because of our store Legends Comics & Books. If you do, I hope you like it and feel okay offering some support. This contest can be valuable to a retailer and, although we run the store because we love the medium of Comics, we also do like to pay rent, etc. like any small business. Simply put, the publicity would be good. More than that I am still surprised that so many good readers are still unaware of what Comics have to offer. They would love it if they only knew about it. We have been nominated in two categories. One is called "Comics, Games & Gaming," although our mandate has always been to be about comics and books only. We were also nominated in the "Bookstore"category. That feels more like us. But you can vote in both, which is what I am asking you to do. It just takes a second and somehow I think that if I did not mention it here many of you would not know the opportunity exists.
