The smell of this Blue Vervain… honestly made me tear up a bit. White and Blue Vervain have seen me through some of the most painful and challenging times of my life… they are the occult power behind Blue Hour: the bitter that anchors and feeds and carves and releases… their only equal a half hour of darkness… a drop of the tincture and I’m drinking in the aliveness of night… I’m at home in my galaxy web collective of symbiotic bacteria… Blue Vervain isn’t a popular herb… still I’m a bit sorry I only ordered 2lbs for the year ahead… 5 litres of fresh tincture coming our way though 😅
To be honest, the way my sourcing practice has changed over the years… ordering directly from 30+ small-scale regenerative growers instead of 1-3 larger distributors… doing the majority of my purchasing during the harvest season, when shop sales and traffic is slowest… not being able to rely as much on credit or getting 90 days to pay a bill… in general, spending thousands of dollars on “perishable goods”… the financial pressure, personal risk, and serious responsibility that comes with spending community money… it all scares the living daylight outta me. Money is actively funding genocides and there is no escaping my or the shop’s complicity in that. What helps me move through the panic and helplessness *that we really can’t afford* though (other than a long-term relationship with Blue Vervain) is knowing herbalists like Jessye are out there. I honestly don’t know how she does it. Her active participation in mutual aid, her tending holy ecology, her continuing education in underserved areas of care… have you checked out futurespell.com 🥵 ??
