A state of emergency has been called in British Columbia.
Over 20,000 residents were forced to flee their homes around communities along Okanagan Lake in western Canada. Over 100 wildfires are raging across the province.
Over 8000 migrant workers are located in the Okanagan and power BC's agriculture industry. They often live in substandard and overcrowded housing.
These workers are being evacuated with thousands of their neighbours, but many of the supports and relief efforts are not available to them. The fires also deprive them of their ability to earn income and support their families across the world.
The Migrant Workers Centre of BC, Migrant Worker Solidarity Project, and Union Cooperative Initiative have partnered to launch the Migrant Worker Wildfire Relief Fund.
100% of your donations will support evacuation, housing, food, and emergency funding for displaced migrant workers. The fund is being coordinated by Migrant Worker advocates who are currently providing support at evacuation centres in the Okanagan.
