So... I am on the Canada skytrain line going to Richmond, Vancouver's actual Chinatown, to walk through there to get to Imperial Hobbies on South Sea Island. I managed to get a seat and I was glancing around at the homeless man nodding off under a silver blanket in the seat behind me, seemed harmless enough, when I noticed a man on the other side of the carriage with a good sized sketchbook on his lap, drawing with what looked like quite a fancy pen. His drawing reminded me of Chinese graphics and courtroom sketches. He was sketching other passengers quite openly, which I know from past experience can be a hazard. So, I figured, "turnabout is fair play" so I pulled out my pocket sketchbook and drew a quick portrait in gel pen before my stop at Lansdowne Station without him noticing... I must say the fact he was wearing a mask made it easier. Without saying anything as I left I showed him the drawing, he smiled under his mask, said nothing and gave me the thumbs up. I thought about giving him the drawing but I wanted to keep it to feature in an issue of "Famous Bus Rides". I bought some paints, plastic ACW Union Perry Miniatures at Imperial Hobbies, walked along the Fraser river walk and went to the Richmond Ikea where I didn't find what I was looking for but had "Swedish poutine" for lunch.
