Welcome back to the studio! Today, I’m sharing a behind-the-scenes look at how these gorgeous statement earrings come to life from scratch.
Creating handmade clay jewelry is truly a therapeutic journey of color, texture, and patience. In this video, I started by chopping and conditioning different clay shades to build a unique terrazzo technique. After conditioning the base clay and carefully blending the terrazzo flakes, I conditioned the slab and rolled it out using an acrylic roller to achieve a smooth, seamless finish. Conditioning the clay properly is essential to prevent air bubbles and ensure structural strength after baking, giving every pair a lightweight yet durable quality.
Once the slab design was seamlessly blended, I dipped my flower-shaped clay cutter into cornstarch—a quick maker's tip that prevents sticky clay from clinging to fine edges and ensures clean, precise cuts every single time! After cutting out the floral shapes, I carefully smoothed out the edges and added small, precise hole punches near the top, making sure they are perfectly ready for jump rings and earring hooks after curing.
Every single piece created in this process is entirely unique. Because of the organic nature of conditioning and slicing terrazzo patterns, no two earrings will ever look exactly alike—and that is the true magic of wearing slow-made, handcrafted artisan jewelry.
