Laurelle Nelson and Alvin Bissett met while working in the Public Market. Years later, they married and opened Laurelle's Fine Foods. Their four children, all of whom grew up around the market, remain involved and are carrying on the work their parents began more than 35 years ago.

Feast. Write. Grow. writes about Laurelle’s legacy business in her article for edibleVancouver & WineCountry, titled “The Magic of the Market”.

“For the Bissett family, Granville Island Public Market is more than a workplace — it’s where they met, raised a family and built a lasting legacy.”
