Research by the Insurance Bureau of Canada shows that many people with tiny 55 gallon rain barrels don't actually either use the water or empty them. So why do municipalities distribute them?

Okay so John Tory says,
"But because we have spent years dithering, not making decisions, kicking decisions downfield, we find ourselves up against it. Once again, we are playing catch-up when it comes to our infrastructure. I intend to take on the challenge personally. I will take the talent we have and, using the examples from around the world, bring the space under the Gardiner to life, make it welcoming urban space. Skate parks in Philadelphia, markets in Rio and an art gallery in Amsterdam. The possibilities are endless."

Okay John Tory... RainGrid invites you you put as much into your City's stormwater preparedness infrastructure, as you do into roadways.

oh yes, tonight at shop.riversides.org
you can add to the Rainfrastructure neighbourhood challenge of installing automated rain barrels.
and getting the inevitable stormwater fee resilience for your property.

Quick poll friends: Who wants to see Toronto take up The Rainfrastructure Challenge?

What Toronto neighbouhood would you nominate for a stormwater climate retrofit with intelligent residential rain barrels?

And after the storm? Were our communities prepared?

Damaged homes, sidewalks and everything between them and our rivers. Where does most property runoff go?

What does and doesn't contribute to combined sewer overflows goes straight to the lake or river.

As many as one in five extreme rain storms around the the world are the result of climate change, while rising temperatures are making extreme heatwaves four to five times more likely, according to a study by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. The study was published in the journal Nature Climate Change. Guardian http://circleofblue.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb4d96410aa2ebf5c8d0b17a3&id=6ee6a34bf3&e=aa93af6ed4

Researchers say heatwaves that previously occurred once every three years are now happening every 200 days thanks to global warming

This Fall, the RiverSides V1 RainBarrel gets a big sibling, the 2XS cistern. At 200USG / 757L, the 2X gives homeowners more rain storage to prevent building foundation damage, runoff to street sewers, and plenty of extra water for yard irrigation.

Thanks to Washington, D.C.'s department of environment, the 2X design will replace the RiverSides V1 rainbarrel as the preferred residential stormwater collection method.

How far ahead can a RainGrid Utility be for Washington, D.C.?
