Today is a special day.
31 long years ago, a young boy had a dream. A plan. An idea.
Well, that dream went up in flames and so instead he decided open up a comic book store.
Now 31 years is kind of lie, because 32.5 years ago was when it all really started. You see, back in the Steeles West Market days, aka now Home Depot at Steeles and Alness, there was a shop called Cosmic Web run by a fellow named Drew (some of you have been around since the Cosmic Web days). He took on a young comic fan as an employee and showed him the ways of the comic book guy. After a year of working at the Cosmic Web, this young man was told that Cosmic Web was shutting down. Opportunity came knocking. The young lad took over the weekend flea market booth and called it "Cyber City Comics & Collectibles". After 1.5 years running this booth and the realization that the dream of film school was gone like Keyser Soze, the young boy went with Plan B and opened the newly renamed store "Cyber City Comix" on July 8th, 1995.
(**Fun Fact. The name change and the switch of "comics" to "comix", was based on pure laziness - it was quicker to write**)
Over the last 30 years of full-time retail, I have met a lot of interesting and great people. A small number of you have been with us the whole time and are known as the OC's (original customers). It's been a blessing & an honour to have met and served each customer that has shopped at our store.
30 years - thank you for picking us as your local comic book shop. We hope to continue serving you well into the future.
