Red Cherry: Cherry type fruits with an excellent flavour. Fruits are best suited for fresh consumption or sauces.

The name 'Ciliegia' simply translates from the Italian word for cherry. True to their name, the ripe tomatoes resemble cherries in their appearance, reaching a diameter of 1,5-2,5cm and a comparable dark red cherry colouring. Apparently this variety is originally from Sicily and due to its shorter to medium height, these tomatoes grow well in pots and on terraces.

This variety produces prolific, indeterminate vines that bear large, red cherry tomatoes with rich, full-bodied, mildly acidic flavor. Vines need staking.

Tomatoes are best started indoors 4–6 weeks before your last frost date. Plant seeds ¼ inch deep and keep evenly moist. Optimum soil temperature is 70–90°F, which can be achieved with a heating mat. After 6–14 days, place new seedlings in a sunny window and fertilize every 2 weeks. Harden off your seedlings before planting by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing inside at night. Transplant 18–24 inches apart in rows that are 36–60 inches apart.

Tatsoi is used for pesto, salads, stir frys and garnishing soup. According to Food52, "Tatsoi is a very versatile green, equally suited to being served raw or lightly cooked. To make it easy, just use tatsoi anywhere you’d use spinach. Lightly steam or sauté it, wilt the leaves with a warm dressing, or add them to a soup at the end of cooking."[5]

The leaves are similar to romaine, while the stalks taste a little like cucumber, with a mild bitterness. Leaves and inner stalk are tender; outer stalk is typically discarded. Typical cooking is to stir fry the leaves and the stalks. They also can be pickled.

PRUDENS PURPLE : A personal favourite! If I had to choose one tomato this would be it, grown here for many seasons, it never disappoints. It’s not purple, but rather a deep red-pink, solid meat beefsteak type with exceptional taste! Plants produce good yields of firm, very delicious tomatoes, with few seeds. Described as silky, these are perfect for anything you may want a tomato for, eating or preserving. Fruits early considering size, which is 1 lb or so. Shows some measure of disease resistance, plants are very healthy. Plants have potato shaped leaves. 75 days somewhat of a compact Indeterminate as it doesn’t seem to outgrow its cage.

According to various SSE descriptions, its development is attributed to an “old woman in Eastern Kentucky” by the name of Mrs. Pruden. The early “want listings” describe a fruit that can be huge (up to five pounds each), and of a deep purple, almost black color. However, all instances of what has been offered to date are potato leaf, pink fruits which, in 19th century tomato terminology, “purple” always referred to what we now call pink.

Traditional Italian artichoke variety, which is known for its beautiful purple-green heads.

Artichokes (Cynara scolymus) are the epitome of all edible flowers and are an ancient agricultural plant, originating from the Mediterranean, tracing back to the first century.

Nevertheless, it was only in the 15th century that artichokes were introduced in Great Britain and France. We see artichokes more commonly in domestic gardens today, where they are not only an exotic eye-catcher but also very useful.

It is even possible to grow artichokes in pots on the balcony, however in this case, it is essential to use a container with a minimum volume of 20L.

A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
