I love cycling, I love cycling culture and I love what cycling can offer every person on an individual level. What I dislike is how we have moved so much potential work oversees in today's marketplace in an effort to compete with massive markets. Additionally, the industry seems to be over-stocked and over priced. While bringing Monocoque carbon manufacturing back from China/Taiwan at the moment
( I stress... "at the moment") is unlikely, the assembly process's can remain. The intent of Number Four Cycles... Bring in high quality open mold frames from China, offer personalized paint and decal choices, offer customization of the build process and have the complete assembly be done in Canada, By Canadians! Over Produced, Over Priced, Under Demanded
Every season the cycling industry has one or two massive blowouts to get rid of overstock, why do we have the overstock? Manufactures always expect growth, force that growth onto their dealers and we are then left with massive overstock. Unfortunately, that overstock hangs around until the industry blowouts occur. Seems like things are overpriced too! We are in an Over-produced, Over-Priced and Under-Demanded state in the cycling industry. Growth demand has out weighed sustainable business practices. Supply on Demand-Create Your Bike
Number Four Cycles will work on the principle of supply based on demand. With this model cyclists will have the opportunity to be involved in the creation of their own bicycle. From colour choice, to custom decals to the components that go into the build. Or, take our stock designs and stock builds and roll out the door... either way you will get a unique bicycle, at a great price and will be supporting more Canadian cyclists through your purchase. We also will not change stock paint and frames every year, this will keep things current for a longer period of time and will not devalue your bicycle as quickly. Much like the auto industry models will be designated by versions (MK1/MK2) and will hang around for at least 3 years! This philosophy and process's will avoid creating excess in the cycling industry, keep bicycles out of landfills and also keep things a little more sustainable both financially and environmentally. Why the name "Number Four Cycles?"
Picture
The number 4 (Four) seemed to be a re-occurring theme in the creation of this in house bicycle brand. Rule #4 in the Velominati states that "it's all about the bike." - The first No4
The launch and prototype phase will be occurring in 2014 - Second No4
I want to start by offering four bikes - 650b FS mtb Bike, 29'r Hardtail, Road and CX Disc - Third No4
Lastly, and the most influential No4 comes from my family. In 2014 we will welcome into the world our 4th child, and in doing so will name our first bike (the 650b FS bike) after him/her. - Fourth No4
So it just seemed fitting to call the brand Number Four... simple as that!
