Beautiful antique Japanese Imari porcelain plate featuring a traditional lobed/scalloped edge and highly detailed hand-painted decorations, including a central medallion of blue-and-white floraland leaf motifs, two circular panels depicting traditional robed figures/scholars resting beneath branches, mythical dragon/horse creatures (Kirin), all accented with vibrant gold overglaze gilts. The background is an elaborate, densely packed iron-red and gold brocade pattern, resembling traditional cherry blossoms. The back features a clear, square underglaze blue "maker's mark" containing the traditional character "Fuku" (福), which translates to "Happiness" or "Good Fortune". This is a classic commendation/studio mark frequently used on authentic Arita export ware. The outer rim is decorated with sparse underglaze blue branches and orange/iron-red overglaze blossoms. Very likely made from 1875 - 1895 during the Japanese Meiji period. Very good antique condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor expected shelf wear on the unglazed foot ring.
7" diameter
A great addition for collectors of Asian art, Chinoiserie decor, or antique porcelain.
