Hello, hai, can you see me?! I've had a week of not being able to post to Insta or Facebook regularly and I was getting errors. On opening a support ticket I was slapped by Meta for a post I did in February about voting for your favorite dog trainer. Requesting a review was greyed out and instead I got a popup essentially threatening the death sentence for not following community standards - Meta's system is SO broken and I'd be so done with it except this is where the people are. But the warnings that were screaming at me yesterday seem to just be gone today, so maybe Meta realized they Forked up and just quietly removed everything? I'm finding out now.....

And IF this works, then YAY - I can tell you that I"ll be at North of Ordinary Events tonight with some fun new things, some fun old things, ice packs and wishes and prayers that I survive the heat. (For those who don't know, I'm allergic to sunlight and heat makes me pass out, so this is the first summer in about 5 years or so that I'm facing the daytime like a "normal" person. My vampire lifestyle is hard to maintain.)

Anyways, there will be some fun people and things as always, but if going outside isn't ideal, I'll be found at tomorrow for Night of Artists market!

See you there, maybe!

One of these beauties has officially been tossed into the prize bag, and honestly, it might become the plant everyone fights over.

The Begonia thurstonii is an absolute unit disguised as a houseplant. Mine regularly tries to outgrow its own reputation and would happily become a small indoor tree if I stopped committing regular plant crimes with the pruning shears. The only reason it’s still under seven feet tall is because I keep cutting it back before it starts demanding property taxes.

Its dark, glossy leaves look almost lacquered, with rich crimson undersides and veins that make the whole plant look dramatic without actually being dramatic. Unlike some begonias that collapse into emotional turmoil because you looked at them wrong, this one is sturdy, forgiving, and genuinely wants to thrive.
It’s bold, weirdly elegant, and one of my favourite plants to share because it grows like it has something to prove.

My life has officially gone to the dogs. I have been living a double life house sitting these hooligans while jumping between homes to prep for the upcoming K9 Drifters Sport Club yard sale. It is a whirlwind of chaos and dog hair over here, and I wear it with pride (chaos and hair alike).

Finally getting my 💩 in a group enough to feel like things are moving forward again!

Deadline to order beneficials is May 20th by 9am, and they will be available to pickup May 29th in Spruce Grove, or on May 31st in Devon.

New to pest control using beneficials? You need to know this: ​To stop pests for good, you have to hit them at every stage of life. If you only go after the larvae, the adults and pupae will just keep the cycle going. You need to attack the whole family tree at once to actually break the loop and clear your plants.

​Here is a quick guide on which predators target which life stages:

​Thrips: cucumeris (young larvae), hypoaspis (pupae), anystis (all stages), green lacewings (larvae)
​Fungus Gnats: hypoaspis (eggs and larvae), rove beetles (eggs and larvae), entonem (larvae and pupae)
​Aphids: aphidoletes (larvae), brown lacewings (all stages), green lacewings (larvae), anystis (all stages)
​Spider Mites: persimilis (all stages), fallacis (all stages), stethorus (all stages), anystis (all stages), brown lacewings (all stages)
​Mealybugs: cryptolaemus (all stages), brown lacewings (all stages)
​Whitefly: encarsia (pupae), delphastus (all stages), anystis (all stages)

​Ladybugs are not available to order yet.

The deadline for Cryptolaemus was last week, so any Cryptos ordered now will not be ready for pickup until next month.

Note on permanent removal: pests are part of plant parenthood!! If you never want to deal with pests, the best move is to switch to silk plants. There is nothing in my 25+ years of plant keeping that make pests gone for good. They come in through windows, on your clothes, on your produce, and can lie dormant for months until they have the right conditions to wake up. You're home is not hermetically sealed and they are small enough to get in through cracks and window screens. Regular prevention amd maintenance is needed, no matter what control method you use.
