THE BOOK (True First Edition Features):

First Edition Stated: "First Edition" printed clearly on the copyright page.

Publisher & Date: Stated Doubleday & Company 1983 on the title page.

Gold Signature: Stephen King’s signature embossed in gold on the front cover.

Gutter Code: Features the correct 'Y38' printing code on the epilogue page at the back of the book.

🧥 THE DUST JACKET (Believed to be Book Club Edition):

No Price: The inside front flap does not have a retail price (as a standard retail first edition jacket should).

Printing Error: The back cover contains a known error that lists Tabitha King's The Caretakers as written in 1982 instead of 1983 (this was corrected in later printings).

❓ Why the mismatch?
In the collecting community, it is generally believed one of two things happened with copies like this: either the original first edition dust jacket became damaged years ago and a previous owner replaced it with a BCE jacket, OR Doubleday experienced a printing error and some leftover BCE jackets went out on true first edition book blocks.

Either way, it’s a fantastic piece of Stephen King history!

Here are her thoughts...

The Way to Dusty Death,
By Alistair MacLean

This book was published in 1973 and revolves around grand prix racing. I have to confess that I am not a racing fan, so it was slightly painful for me to make it through all 190 pages. I found the book very disjointed - the characters were very vague. It takes you through the supposed downfall of the top driver of the time only to find out he is working undercover with Scotland Yard to bring down corrupt people in the sport. It wasn’t until the last 40 pages where it got “intriguing “ and faster paced. The ending (spoiler alert) was also abrupt…to the point of wondering if the story continued in another book.
