What is a wand? A wand is a guide and focus point of your energy. How do I use and care for my wand? There is some debate about use and care of magic wands. The truth is; how you choose to use and care for your wand is a personal decision and therefore you can do what you want to ensure it holds meaning for you, and make it more effective. Remember that YOU are the power of the wand. Your wand helps you focus and direct your energies - your own inner magic. And while it is a powerful and useful tool, don't forget that ultimately, you hold your own power within yourself. There is no need to 'cleanse' a wand unless you feel it has been exposed to some negative influence. If such an item were so tarnished as to need a 'cleansing' it would not make a suitable magical tool anyhow. All Magical By Design wands are created with the utmost care. If you feel you would like to dedicate your new wand I recommend a simple elemental process: Pass the tip of your wand through smoke (air and fire) and salted water (water and earth). You may also leave your wand in full moonlight. You can leave it outside, or simply on your windowsill. The idea of 'charging' the wand is not necessary because it will receive your influence through use. The wand is a conduit, not a battery. The idea of 'pre-charging' it would imply that we are imbuing it with some sort of 'neutral energy', of which there is no such thing. Different types of wood have different meanings. I am using what I find locally. Apple: love, contact with the Otherworld, initiation, and fertility. Caragana: (still searching) Lilac: (searching) Maple: Rituals of celebration, and handfastings. Pine: Knowledge, illumination, and fire magic. Poplar: Divination. Spruce: (still searching)
