What can be easier to wear for running errands (ok let me be totally honest- actually it was to bottle white wine for my summer stock which was of the utmost importance LOL), than a cute little cheetah print, baby doll dress, high boots and a matching over the shoulder bag. I honestly tried to NOT wear a hat but couldn't leave the house without one on. I may or may not have a serious headgear problem ... is there a help group out there for that? Asking for a friend.

Just out for a casual family dinner celebrating Father's Day and decided to keep to the basics with a vintage white skirt and retro black blazer!

As with a lot of my vintage clothing, wearing certain pieces triggers memories for me. For example this long white, flared cotton skirt was my very first purchase when I started my job in Toronto with the Forest Division at Queen's Park in 1986. During those years, I would often stroll over to Yonge Street and browse the shops during lunch hours and when I could afford it (was raising 3 children on my own and was commuting every day from Cambridge so funds were very tight) I splurged and bought this skirt with a little matching bolero from 'The Cat's Meow ". Obviously I can justify it now because it was an investment as I am still wearing it 40 years later and it's still in mint condition and will never really go "out of style".

Remember ladies sometimes buying good clothing is actually an investment so go ahead and buy that item. You're welcome and please follow me for more fashion financial advice. LOL

I know this is a long one but I hope/think you will find it interesting.

So my day started with: Hmm what to wear to the annual vintage car show being held at our beautiful waterfront today? And than I thought wait a minute- what about this vintage jumpsuit from the 1940s which I thought was the perfect occasion to pull this piece of history from Robin's Rooms- Retro and Vintage closet.

Here's the scoop on this VERY unique item. I had bought this one-piece jumpsuit years ago at a thrift store in mid Michigan for $10 not knowing what it was and only that it fit and looked pretty "cool" and was nothing like I had seen before.

Well a few years later I started checking into it's history and this is what I discovered:

After WW11 ended fighter pilots were sent home to go back to their home life. It wasn't long after that though, they found themselves bored with domestic life mowing the lawn etc after spending so much time fighting the enemy in high adrenaline flight exchanges. So what did they decide to do? Well they banded together and bought up small abandoned airstrips and formed "The Sports Car Club Of America" and started racing sports cars and guess what? the club still exists and are still racing today!

So here are a few more details about the actual jumpsuit that you might find interesting:

1) the interior tag states "the item is inflammable (will not catch fire in the event of an accident) however; it cannot protect from serious injury or death." The suit was manufactured by the R.J.S. Safety Equipment Company who are still operating today. I reached out to the company to try to get more information on this item and I did hear back but it was only to receive a copy of their catalog and nothing to do with the vintage pieces but if you ever need a good deal to purchase safety equipment, I can hook you up LOL .

I also wrote and sent pictures to the show 'American Pickers" thinking that Mike Wolf, might be interested as this piece of history represents both the aviation and racing history of their second world war pilots.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this post and I should state that at the time of this writing, I'm still waiting for a response....
