Hey everyone! Since I’m getting back into birth work, I thought I should update my introduction!

I’m Angie. I’m a labour and post partum doula, a babywearing educator and a basic breastfeeding support person. I am passionate about supporting women and families through pregnancy and the early post partum period and I recognize this support can look a variety of different ways for different families. While I hold some fairly passionate beliefs, I fundamentally believe in informed choice in every aspect of your pregnancy and parenting journey. Each of us are uniquely equipped to make the best decision for ourselves and our families and my goal is to support you through that process, with information, compassion and respect.

Saskatoon has a thriving birth and parenting community, which can feel a bit overwhelming when looking for pregnancy and post partum support. One of the things I tell every family I meet with is to follow your intuition and choose a care provider or support person that you click with. There are certainly other important considerations, such as budget or levels of experience, but that gut feeling of “does this feel good? Is this a person that I want in my birth or postpartum space?” Is a critical tool. Listen to it.

In addition to my birth work, I have 2 amazing children, a love of dance and passion for connecting with and among women, with a goal of honesty, integrity, sisterhood, compassion and love. I love spending time in nature with my partner, my kids and my absurd tiny doggo.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have, or if you’d like to sit down and see if I might be a good fit for your birth or post partum period, drop me a note and we can sit down over tea. I currently have availability for September and October due dates.

So cute!! Did you ever wear your baby to work?

09/20/2017

What if instead of telling pregnant women all of our horror stories about birth and parenting, we shared the good stuff? Like the moment when your baby is placed on your chest for the very first time? The tears and emotions on your partners face when they pick up their child? The intensity of birth that feels like conquering a marathon?

Let's change the culture of birth and start sharing the good stuff.

I'm sitting down to work on updating my business plan and my fall/winter continuing education goals. I have my goals for the next 6 months, but I want to hear from you! What prenatal & postnatal services and offerings does Saskatoon need? What do you wish we had here?

Are you "that kind" of mom? 😉 I have space available for "that kind" of mom due in September or October.

Great tip from La Leche League!

Have you ever worried that your newborn fell asleep hungry after breastfeeding?
"When a baby is hungry, he tends to clench his fists tightly and bring them toward his face. If he falls asleep hungry, his fists usually stay clenched. But when he gets milk, he relaxes starting with his face. Then his shoulders relax, and finally those fists unclench. Eventually they're as limp as the rest of him. Think of his hands as a built-in fuel gauge." -- La Leche League's Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, 8th edition

If your newborn is listless and difficult to wake, consulting with your healthcare provider to rule out extenuating circumstances is recommended.

We know that a majority of parents will bring their baby to their bed at some point within the first year. Whether you intentionally practice bed-sharing on a regular basis, or occasionally bring babe to bed, the Safe Sleep 7 is a great summary of how to safely share your bed with your baby.
