This National Wildlife Week, we honour the deep responsibility that the Métis Nation carries to protect all our Relations - from the smallest insects to the mighty buffalo.
Guided by the spirit of Wâhkôhtowin - the sacred relationship between all living things - Métis communities are leading the way in conservation. Across the Homeland, Métis-led practices are restoring balance, reconnecting species like bison to the land, and safeguarding the habitats that sustain us all.
Through our Nature Strategy, Guardians Programs, and rights-based conservation work, we are walking in harmony with the land, water, and sky - taking only what we need, and respecting all life through a holistic approach.
Each region brings its own strength: from monitoring wildlife and fish to protecting berries, water, and ice. Métis Guardians are on the land every day, carrying generations of knowledge and responsibility with them. Their work is vital - not only for today, but for the generations still to come.
