Well the birds this morning didn’t cooperate to well so set out for an late afternoon hunt as I was pretty sure I had a pair of toms patterned. Well at 6pm right on schedule they came into range and I decided to fill my second tag with this guy. Not a monster but a nice bird to say the least. My only regret is my son decided to not come this afternoon and we would if had a great chance at a father son double.

So proud of my wife today. We did an afternoon sit getting to our spot at 1:30 knowing birds show up between 2:30 and 4. 2 hens show up at 3 followed by 2 jakes which were not sure about the DSD Jake decoy, so they stopped at 25 yards and headed for the bush. Andrea looked at me and I said the toms will show later typically so she let the jakes walk. Fast forward to a pair of very numb bums and I hear a gobble in the distance . 10 min later a 3rd hen comes into the decoys which still has the first 2 hanging around. I hear a gobble again and he is deep and close. Then he pops out into the field sees the decoys and 3 live hens. He starts heading to the Jake decoy all the time scanning the field edge like no other bird I have seen. He sees something he doesn’t like and I tell my wife to kill him. The rest is history. Biggest bird in the Bartley house to date. Bird was weighed in officially for a competition also.
