Looking for a nice coffee table book for a Canadian art fan this Christmas? Here is a beautiful book by Charles Beale about the life and work of painter Manly Edward Macdonald. Macdonald was born near Belleville, Ontario and many of his paintings were of landscapes and places in rural or small town Ontario. The reproduced art work illustrations in the book are bright and attractive. There is an inscription by the author on the title page. 175 pages. Published in 2010. Near fine book in a very good dust jacket, with a little crinkling to the spine ends. Pick up can be arranged in Garden Hill (rural Port Hope). Or shipping at cost. $125 CAD.

Here's a throwback to your childhood Christmas! A Pop-Up Night Before Christmas, the famous and beloved poem by Clement C. Moore. This edition, which was published by Random House, appears to be from the 1970's or possibly early 80's and has colourful illustrations throughout and many pop ups and flaps. Its condition is Very Good Plus. There is no damage to any of the pop ups or flaps and it has just a little rub wear to the covers. Certainly was not overly read by children past, which is a shame really. $50 plus shipping which is dependent on location. Will ship using alternative to Canada Post during the current strike. Please DM to express interest or ask questions. SOLD

Rest in peace, Gordon Lightfoot. One of my faves growing up, for sure. I was not really a rock band person, much more of a folkie even as a teenager.

If you are interested in knowing more about Gord's life up until the mid 1980's, I have this book for sale. Published in 1988 by Deneau Publishers. Sound and square binding in paper-covered boards. Minor wear to the corner tips. One tiny smudge mark on upper board. Inside pages are clean, bright and unmarked. Dust jacket has some light wear to the edges including a tiny edge tear at rear top fore-corner. Lightly shelf rubbed. A biography of famed Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. Covers both the ups and downs of Lightfoot's life to the point of publication. Illustrated with black and white photographs.

$30 CAD plus shipping. DM me if interested.

Now that Spring is here and the weather is warming, there will be more of us who will want to take advantage of the Ganaraska or Northumberland Forest trails, or other trail systems in Ontario. If you are interested in the history of the development of conservation areas, I am offering this book for sale, which was co-written by one of the earliest proponents of the conservation movement for the province, A.R. Richardson. The Ganaraska watershed was the first area studied by Richardson and others, leading to the creation of a protected area to prevent soil erosion and water depletion. Richardson's Lookout in the north end of rural Port Hope is named after "Mr. Conservation" and provides a great view of the Ganaraska Forest and farmlands of the area. The book is available for $20 CAD plus shipping, if required. Pick up welcome, I'm just on the edge of the Ganaraska Forest.

Looking for some traditional Christmas reading for over the holidays? I have in stock an American reprint edition circa 1908 of the collected Christmas stories written by Charles Dickens.
The stories include: A Christmas Carol, The Chimes, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Battle of Life, and The Haunted Man. It has five black and white engravings, including a tissue guarded frontispiece, and one for each story except The Haunted Man. A little damage to the covers, but it still would look nice amongst your Christmas decor! $40.

Are you of "a certain age" that you can remember the CBC radio-TV show "Maggie Muggins" from the late 1940's to early 1960's? Maggie, a freckle-faced, red-headed girl has many adventures with her human-like animal friends and neighbour Mr. McGarrity. This show was adapted from the stories written by Mary Grannan, who also hosted the show. I have recently acquired a nice set of eight of the Maggie Muggins books, all hardcovers with dustjackets. If you would like to relive your childhood or share these fun stories with some children in your life, these may be meant for you. After all, who doesn't love a red-haired, pig-tailed heroine a la Maggie, Anne of Green Gables, or Pippi Longstocking?? The books are in good condition overall although they have either a small piece cut from the front endpaper or most of the endpaper removed, likely to remove a previous owner's name. $20 CAD each or $140 for the set. Plus shipping, as required. Please message me if interested.
