It's back !!! The accessibility matting was first installed at the Port Dover, Ontario beach way back in June 2017 for people using wheelchairs, canes, walkers or experiencing any other form of reduced mobility, to gain access to the beach.

The Port Dover beach is one of the best beaches in the world with pure sand all the way out in the water, no rocks, no undergrowth no heavy currents to worry about, just rolling sand dunes.

Unbelievable that such a beautiful place exists and it's right here in our backyard. A big bonus for the locals this time of year, is the tourist season is not in full swing yet, and there's lots and lots of beach. Best enjoy it while the weather is perfect !!!

"Last chance to get your Derby tickets! The grand prize includes a boat, motor, and trailer, as well as a Bistro patio set.

Tickets are available from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Perch Derby HQ (corner of St. Andrew and Harbour St.), as well as at Stoney's Home Hardware, The Dover Cheese Shop, and the Port Dover Seniors Centre.

The Derby closes at 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 9th, with the draw taking place on-site at 5:00 PM."

Very cool!

Let’s roll the clock back about seven years to that unforgettable day when a small airplane was practicing water landings and takeoffs right beside the Port Dover lighthouse and pier. Those of us standing on the pier couldn’t take our eyes off it, every swoop, every splashdown, every lift‑off had people pointing, smiling, and shaking their heads in amazement.

Moments like that remind you how unpredictable and exciting life on the lakeshore can be. Have you ever witnessed anything thrilling like this around Port Dover or anywhere else in Norfolk County or beyond? I’d love to hear your stories, the more unexpected, the better.

A winter sunrise in Port Dover has a way of stopping time. The sky doesn’t just brighten, it blooms. Colours spill across the horizon in layers that feel almost impossible: deep rose, molten orange, soft lavender, and that fleeting blue that only appears for a breath before the sun fully wakes. The lake holds it all like a mirror, rippling gently, as if even the water is trying not to disturb the moment.

And yet, even the most vivid photograph can only hint at what it feels like to stand there in the cold, hearing nothing but the quiet lap of the shoreline and watching the world warm itself from the edges inward. There’s a kind of magic in the air, something you can feel on your skin, in your chest, in the stillness around you. It’s a privilege to witness, and it’s bittersweet knowing that many will only ever see it through a screen, missing the crispness of the air, the hush of the lake, and the way the colours seem to wrap around you rather than simply appear in front of you.

For those who can’t be here, this photo becomes a poor facsimile of how truly beautiful a Port Dover sunrise really is, a way of sharing a moment that can’t be captured, but can still be felt.
