Happy Bloomsday everyone!

June 16th is the day the world celebrates the life and works of Irish author James Joyce. Joyce is regarded as one of the most important writers of the 20th century and is considered a pillar of the modernist movement.

To celebrate, people often dress in period related clothing and will read his works or watch reenactments of his various novels. While we at Western Sky are not hosting an event today to celebrate, we would like to acknowledge the man and the important pivot his novel Ulysses was to modernist writing

If you'd like to learn more about Joyce and his works, linked below is a National Geographic article made on the centenary anniversary of his novel "Ulysses".

It's release day for The Whistler by Ann Patchett. Come get your preorders; we made sure to have a lot in store too. Already hitting 4.64 on The Storygraph, (make the switch!) we know this book will be one of her most beloved.

Here is a sample review:

"This is now one of my favorite Ann Patchett books. Whistler thrives in the quiet spaces of ordinary lives, making the narrative feel deeply immersive. I love how she draws her characters; they are beautifully complex, flawed, and yet charming. Slowly learning about Daphne and Eddie's past and watching them reconnect was refreshing, making them figures I cared about deeply.
Patchett takes little, forgotten stories and moments and shows how vital they are, and how they stay with you until the very end. I'm not sure if there was a single element that didn't land for me. The emotional depth and pacing were well-balanced. It's the type of story that doesn't scream for attention, but rather makes me want to read slower near the end because I just don't want to be finished with these characters. "
